Hi, I would like to be able to get ride of all these icons that I am using in different elements and replace them with small png files instead.

Why? Using the entyp-fontello fonts is causing unnecessary delay in the loading of the page. And as we all know we have need for speed if we want to rank high on Google.

In the attached waterfall we can se that just the tina search icon is causing a delay of almost 1 second!

UPDATE: Although the below approach took away the “wait state” for loading fonts, I couldn’t notice any significant performance gain when running multiple (10+) GTMETRIX tests at different times with and without pre-loading fonts. I was a bit to early in singing the praise…………

Never mind I did a copy of the header.php to my child theme and then I followed the below instructions to pre load the fonts in the header.

    This made wonders! https://gtmetrix.com/reports/aptilostaging.wpengine.com/etwthxqP

I highly recommend everyone to look into this.

Case closed, I am very happy. Still some bottle necks to sort out.
