Hi Team Enfold,
I had created a Woo Commerce store for layout purposes, but had to delete the plugin again for legal reasons. Now I wanted to install the plugin again and now I get the following error message in the WordPress backend: “Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /home/www/kamieth/layout-keinstuhl/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/includes/class-wc-download-handler.php on line 559”. The plugin fails to do its job …
Fyi: The theme, WordPress and plugins are up to date – I also tried installing the WooCommerce plugin without any other plugins. The web server is set to PHP 8.0.25 – however, Enfold shows me under Theme Options -> Theme Update: “Your PHP version: 7.4.33”. Is there a solution for this? Thanks for your efforts!
Best regards

Which version of the theme are you running? Did you try deactivating all other plugin?

Thanks for that. Does this problem happen if you activate a different theme as well? Note that this is not a general problem with Enfold, the reason for it is likely local to your site.

Just briefly to your info: you were (almost) right – the error was not due to ENFOLD, nor was it due to my website. When I switched from PHP 7 to 8, the hoster’s web server indicated that PHP 8 was set. However, the conversion did not work for the website, it was still running on PHP 7 and was therefore not configured… That’s why WooCommerce no longer worked.
Thanks anyway for your support!
Best regards,
