Hello. I have used enfold many times. I bought a new version today, and installed wordpress 4.9.4 on my godaddy site, as I usually do, and I have uninstalled, and deleted the theme multiple times, and I still get this error when I visit the site:

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/content/50/8534150/html/gpstrackserver/wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php on line 6

It says that the theme installed correctly, allows me to activate it but then when previewed, it shows this error code… HELP!

    Hey,

Sorry for the inconvenience! Issue occurs on servers running PHP versions older than 5.6. You can either upgrade your PHP version to minimum 5.6 and preferably to 7.x or replace /wp-content/themes/enfold/header.php file with this one – https://www.dropbox.com/s/r389b5x4ippscyn/header.php?dl=0 to bring up backwards compatibility with older PHP versions.

    Best regards,
    Yigit

Thanks, where do I put this? I don’t know how to do it.

    Hi,

You can put it in /wp-content/themes/enfold/ via FTP. If you do not mind posting FTP logins here privately, we can replace the file for you as well :)

    Best regards,

After seeing quite a few others experiencing the same error, will this error continue occurring until PHP is upgraded? Some folks are in a situation where they cannot upgrade to a later version of PHP. Does this mean that Enfold will no longer work with earlier version of PHP?

    Hi lstoudenmire,

Enfold does work with php5.6.3, there is no excuse for not upgrading, it’s not Enfold it’s WordPress and WooCommerce and many other plugins that might not work with earlier versions of php.

Do you have any issue in particular that you need help with?

    Best regards,
    Victoria
