Installing the plugin The Events Calendar by Modern Tribe (https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/) with the Enfold theme works alright out of the box. However, checking the “Activate Block Editor for Events” option in the event calendar’s general settings in order to activate the Gutenberg block editor for events breaks the layout for the events pages. This wouldn’t be so bad of a problem except for that after the box has been checked, you cannot go back … unchecking this “Activate Block Editor for Events” box in the plugin’s general settings does not revert the output to its working state in Enfold.

As it turns out, it is not exactly setting that particular setting which breaks the output in Enfold. Simply saving the General settings page for the plugin seems to be enough to break the Enfold view. On a clean install, the Events Calendar displays fine in Enfold. But saving that plugin settings page breaks something in Enfold which causes the output of the events pages to look terrible.

Further details tracking this down. While this seemed tied to the Gutenberg editor setting in the Event Calendar’s “General” settings, it seems that it is actually a bug in the way Enfold overrides the Event Calendar’s “Display” settings. Essentially, out of the box, the overrides do not come into play. Once any setting (even in the General tab) is changed for the plugin, however, the Enfold changes seem to take over, mucking up the display output because a “Default view” is no longer selected. Saving the “Display” settings page in the plugin forces that to update and causes Enfold to properly output the events page if and only if the option “Use updated calendar designs” is unchecked (which it is not by default).

So, there are a couple of things that likely need to happen here — if the Enfold theme can set its changes for the plugin settings upon plugin activation, that would help it not seem broken at first. Additionally, the Enfold theme likely needs to be updated to handle the new calendar designs provided by the plugin.

I hope this extra info is helpful in resolving this buggy output in the next update of Enfold.
