    Hi. When activating Enfold, I get this error: There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    I reached out to my hosting company for help, and they can’t activate the theme either. He re-uploaded the files but can’t activate. His reply is below, suggested I reach out to you. I have used Enfold successfully on other sites, so not sure what is going on. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Hosting company reply:
    I wasn’t able to get that theme to work either. Here are some of the errors it produces, in case you want to send them to the theme author:

    Hey Diane,
    Please include FTP access in the Private Content area so we can examine.
    Is this a new site with no content or is it a staging site of a site that you are updating or importing?
    I ask to know if the site can be reset or if there is expected content that you don’t want to lose.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    test.ginjohnacting.com is a copy of ginjohnacting.com . I am trying to convert the test site from the Oscillator theme to Enfold. The site can be reset if need be – I can always pull content from the live site (ginjohnacting.com). Just fyi, earlier this month I converted another site from Oscillator to Enfold successfully. ftp credentials provided. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    Thanks, I was able to remove the Enfold theme and then I could login into your site, and I disabled all of your plugins, then I tried to upload a new version of the theme and I got a 406 server error:
    Not Acceptable
    An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server.

    This may be caused by Mod_Security on your server.
    I removed the theme again and noted some Wordfence code in your .htaccess file:

    # Wordfence WAF
    <Files ".user.ini">
        <IfModule mod_authz_core.c>
            Require all denied
        </IfModule>
        <IfModule !mod_authz_core.c>
            Order deny,allow
            Deny from all
        </IfModule>
    </Files>

    # END Wordfence WAF

    ModPagespeedRewriteLevel CoreFilters

    since I had disabled all of the plugins I thought that this was causing an issue so I removed it and tried to upload the theme again but got the same error and I was booted out of FTP, I think I was banned by Mod_Security. See if your host can disable Mod_Security and then we can try uploding the theme again.
    I have not seen this issue before, perhaps you could also try creating a new subdomain and a new plain WordPress install and try installing Enfold there.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    I shared your response with our hosting company and he said: Well, I know that mod_security affects uploading via WordPress, but the issue was not that because I was able to successfully upload and unzip the theme file. I’m going to try a different approach this evening and I will let you know how it goes.

    We wound up going with Plan B …. we copied an existing site where I used/activated Enfold already into the test site that gave us problems. Then I started recreating pages using Enfold.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    Glad to hear that you have this sorted out, this as a strange issue that I have not seen before. If you have any further questions please create a new thread and we will gladly try to help you. Thank you for using Enfold.

    Best regards,
    Mike
