Hello,
I have a website with woocommerce but I cannot – with a few exeptions – display the subcategories. Only Products are displayed. Links in private area.
In the customizer the settings are right (categories / subcategories). Any ideas why this is so confusing?

April 12, 2024 at 12:17 pm #1439816Hey donillo,
Thank you for your patience, but the login doesn’t see to work, please check.
When I check my demo site categories, when a sub-category like this example for “Casual” under “Woman”:
will have a URL like: /shop/product-category/women/casual/ and the parent category “Woman” has a url of: /shop/product-category/women/
Your site is using this url path: ?product_cat=, I believe that you have not set your WordPress ▸ Dashboard ▸ Settings ▸ Permalink Settings try using the Post name option instead of Plain.Best regards,
MikeApril 15, 2024 at 7:55 am #1439987I don´t think that the permanent links are the problem… and the categories are sorted as expected:
But the the categories are missing on the pages…

April 15, 2024 at 11:47 am #1440016Hi,
Thanks for the login, when I check the two pages that you linked to I don’t see any difference
I also note that your screenshot above is from a plugin called Category Order and Taxonomy Terms Order, try disabling the plugin an see if this solves the issue. The plugin support lists many issues.
A good place to start is to disable all of your plugins, on my test site with no plugins the product category seems to work correctly.Best regards,
MikeApril 15, 2024 at 4:24 pm #1440035I disabled all the plugins except woocommerce, but no changes… Any ideas?
April 15, 2024 at 7:29 pm #1440047Hi,
I’m still not sure what the issue you are seeing, because I don’t see a difference2 between the two pages that you linked to, they both looked the same to me.
Please explain further and perhaps some screenshots would help.Best regards,
MikeApril 15, 2024 at 7:58 pm #1440054This is the desired view:
The sub-categories are shown.
This is the behavior my categories have:
No sub-categories, only products.
April 16, 2024 at 2:33 am #1440065Hi,
Ok, the difference that I see is the top one has just the image and title:
and the second one has a image, title, & excerpt:
is this what you mean?
I guess I was confused because you were referencing sub-categories, but I don’t see this in either screenshot.
Why do some of your items have a green & black stripe in the image, and the others do not?Best regards,
MikeApril 16, 2024 at 7:26 am #1440067I have a lot of sub categories and I want to display the subcategories and not products that are in the subcategories…. These are the images with the green and black stripe. I´ll only display products if they are in a (sub)categoy.
The other images are products. And in this case I cannot move through the subcategories, cause they are missing. Thats the problem.
April 16, 2024 at 7:40 am #1440068Hi,
Thank you for the clarification.
The subcategories don’t display on the parent category page – Test & Measurement because the direct subcategory, Telecommunicatie, doesn’t contain any products. You should edit the products and apply the Telecommunicatie category to them.
To test this, we created a product called Test & Measurement Product A and applied the categories Test & Measurement and Telecommunicatie.
Best regards,
IsmaelApril 16, 2024 at 8:12 am #1440073Thanks. That´s strange. In a second installation it works without products. I´ll try this out.
April 16, 2024 at 8:19 am #1440077If I change the category from your test product to a category two levels lower and without the main category, it works too, but why? So no product in Telecommunicatie and now it works? But why is it working now?
April 16, 2024 at 8:50 am #1440083Hi,
We’re not entirely sure, but based on previous observations, the subcategories should contain at least one product. Otherwise, it will display all products that belong to the parent category and its subcategories.
Best regards,
IsmaelApril 17, 2024 at 10:19 am #1440176OK, but in a second installation with the same setup/categories it works… Very strange.
