Version 4.9 is ignoring my footer column widgets and replacing them with default content. This is happening on all of my websites (three before I stopped upgrading). I’ve done the usual things to try to fix it (toggle permalinks, turn off plugins) but the problem persists. You can view two of the site’s that I’ve not reverted back to 4.8.9 within Private below.

March 1, 2022 at 6:28 am #1342651Hey laptophobo,
Thank you for the inquiry.
Did you modify the footer.php file in those sites? Please check the child theme directory for the any modified template files.
Best regards,
IsmaelMarch 1, 2022 at 6:49 am #1342652No, not in some time. And I just swapped out the current footer.php to an older version, no change. Also, when I return the theme to 4.8.9, the footers work.
March 1, 2022 at 7:36 am #1342654Hi laptophobo,
You’ll need to update the footer.php file of your child theme (base it on Enfold 4.8.9.1 footer.php file) and the issues you’re having should be fixed.
Best regards,
NikkoMarch 1, 2022 at 8:12 am #1342659I don’t have that version. Only 4.8.9 (and 4.9). Where can I pull a copy from? (or just use the 4.8.9?)

I see, please use 4.9. :)

NikkoMarch 1, 2022 at 9:43 am #1342669Hi Nikko,
That didn’t work. I copied over the footer.php from 4.9 into the child folder and no change. See private for website location.

Please see Private for access.
March 2, 2022 at 10:33 am #1342819Hi,
Thanks for that. It’s not possible to rename files in your child theme for some reason, please see private. I downloaded all the footer files and header.php in your child theme locally though, and deleted the ones on the server, and your footer is showing as it should after that. Please try deleting the footer files which you don’t need, then try replacing that and header.php with the parent theme versions after that. If you need further help with that, then please let us know.
Best regards,
RikardMarch 2, 2022 at 11:08 am #1342824I have deleted the footer.php and the header.php files from the child folder. I then copied the footer.php and header.php files from parent and placed them in the child folder. no change at all.
I am wondering why this happened with the updating of Enfold from 4.8.9 to 4.9. And why there was no problem before, on any of my Enfold installs. It looks like your team did something to the footer files in the recent release. Right now, I have about 10 Enfold sites that I cannot upgrade until this problem is resolved.
March 2, 2022 at 11:55 am #1342830Hi,
Thanks for the update. Are we allowed to replace the files in question? If you are not overriding anything in the files in question, then you can delete them from your child theme.
There has been changes in both footer.php and header.php in the recent updates, that is why the templates in your child theme has to be updated as well.

RikardMarch 2, 2022 at 1:21 pm #1342839Yes go ahead. I have backed up everything on my end in case I need to restore.
March 2, 2022 at 1:34 pm #1342842Hi,
I’ve now replaced header.php and footer.php in your child theme, and it’s working as expected. Please review your site.

RikardMarch 2, 2022 at 2:47 pm #1342855Thank you. For my other sites can you tell me where you got the working PHP files from?
March 2, 2022 at 3:05 pm #1342857Hi,
Simply copy the files over from the parent theme, that’s what I did :-)
