Hello,
I just updated our theme on our website to the latest version and it reset all of our child theme settings. All of the settings are still present, but the site is loading as if we are using the default parent theme.I tried activating the parent theme and re-activating the child theme. I also tried exporting the child theme settings and re-importing them with no luck.
November 1, 2021 at 11:18 pm #1327353Updating to add: plugin “Email before Download” was found to be the culprit after I deactivated all plugins and reactivated one by one. I successfully rolled back to version 4.8.6.3 as well, but will hold off on updating to the current version again until I can verify it will not cause issues with any other plugins.

Great, I’m glad that you found a solution. I’ve read that other users have had this problem as well, but we’re not sure what is causing it at the moment unfortunately. Do you have a staging site which you could update on first? If so, then we can see the actual problem, which makes it easier to debug.

RikardNovember 2, 2021 at 4:32 pm #1327494Unfortunately we don’t have a staging site. I did notice that Email Before Download (EBD) posted on their support forum about other users experiencing site crashing and issues so it may have been a combination of issues in our case.
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/site-crashes-breaking/I’m considering this resolved for the time being as the plugin is not crucial and they are also investigating potential issues. I will try to update the theme again at a non-crucial time. Thank you!

Thanks for the update. We’ve had other users report this same problem, and it looks like they are all running the Email before download plugin, so that is the likely culprit in this case. We’ll keep this thread open in case you should need any further help on the topic.
