GuestHey Guys.
Need some help in making a decision here.
My web developer purchased Enfold and installed it as the template for my customized site https://TriVisionGlobal.com several years back.
Have kept it up to date and back in October of 2018 was told it had malware on it and we tried to clean it up as google blacklisted us. Now just this week it has been found again and we had to remediate with McAfee to get out of their Browser Warning Message.
It has been identified there is actual malware in the code of the theme.
Now I can’t get a hold of the web developer to get the purchase code so it looks like I may have to buy it again.
My question is:
1) If I install the new version will it enable me to keep my customization? and
2) Will it eliminate the infected code in the theme as my web host provider LiquidWeb as instructed me as follows: “I’ve looked over the log files, but haven’t been able to find the source of the infection, however seeing that it’s all files for the tvg theme, it could be a theme vulnerability (or possibly the attacker targeted the theme.)
You will want to un-install and re-download and re-install the theme. I’d also suggest changing the WordPress admin password, and ensuring that WordPress and all plug-ins are up-to-date.”
In my question of the customization being lost they replied and said
“Theme customization may be lost (depending on if WordPress stores them in the database, or in the theme files. I’d guess that WordPress would store that in the database, but that’s a question for the them developers or WordPress.)
In any case, the scan shows that the theme is infected, so it should be removed and re-installed to secure the website.”
So before I purchase I’d like to get some wisdom so I don’t loose everything I paid to have built and customized.
Can you help with recommendations and the best way to go about updating your theme without destroying months or work and a sizable investment and ensure that purchasing the updated theme is the solution?
Appreciate it.
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks for the link, but I was not able to login. I see that you are using Enfold v3.1.3 which is quite old, but we have taken good care to be backward compatible, so you should be able to update with minimal issues. You will need to ensure your PHP version is at least v5.6
The theme settings are stored in the database with an export option in the theme, please download this for safe keeping.
Depending on your developer your functions.php and header.php may contain customizations that you will need to save a backup of.
A safe way to update your theme is to rename your current theme to “enfold1-old” via ftp then upload the new “enfold1” and check that your site is working correctly.
Once you are happy you can delete the “enfold1-old” via ftp, (not the WP theme page)
Should for some reason you wish to roll-back to the old version, it’s easy to do, simply rename the new “enfold1” to “enfold1-new” via ftp and then rename “enfold1-old” to “enfold1” then refresh your page.
**Please note that I saw your current theme is “enfold1”, instead of “enfold” so I adjusted these instructions to reflect this**I would like to point out that hidden users can reside in the database, so I assume that LiquidWeb looked for this, or will.
I hope this helps.Best regards,

GuestThanks Mike.Fixed the PW issue for the WP site.
PW: S!zy4eGijKNTGQICu7Fw6qHLI’ll send these instruction to my guy as I’m not confident enough to do this without screwing it up.
Thanks for the help. Let me give this a go and see what happens.
Do you know anyone that I could trust to actually do this work?
May 30, 2019 at 4:37 am #1105327Hi,
Thank you for the login, I see that your PHP is v5.6.40, so that is good.
But I also see that you have custom code in your parent theme (Enfold) functions.php and are using the “Advanced Custom Fields” plugin, please advise “your guys” of this because they will need to copy this to the updated theme.
I would advise hiring from Codeable and in your request let them know it is a Enfold site.Best regards,

GuestThanks Mike. Will do. How much time do you think it should take them to do this so I don’t get taken advantage of? My sense is that it should be no longer than 15 to 20 minutes assuming everything is smooth and no more than an hour right? Thanks again for your help.
May 31, 2019 at 5:24 am #1105590Hi,
Glad to help, I would say about an hour, you will want them to test your custom functions.php after it is moved to the new theme.Best regards,

GuestJust realized that I forgot to ask where can I get the updated theme? And is there a coupon for upgrades so we don’t have to pay full price?
