    Hello – Finally got around to using your Enfold theme after purchasing it some 5 years ago but when I preview or activate the theme it crashes the entire site.

    Enfold is shown as an option in the WP Admin themes panel but when previewing or activating it crashes the entire site – both front facing and admin

    This is on a pristine new WP install:
    * WP 5.2.2
    * PHP 7.3
    * MySQL 5.6
    * SSL Cert installed.
    * no content added yet apart from a couple of sample items

    I’ve re-download the theme 3 times and tried each in case there was a corruption on download.
    The only other addition to the core WP install is Yoast SEO basic version which your page on ThemeForest says is compatible.
    The site works fine with other themes, both admin and front facing, but not your Enfold.
    I’ve temporarily reverted to the default Twenty Ninteen theme but the enfold theme files are still in situ.

    Please advise.

    Thank you

    Hey univiz,
    Please include an admin login & FTP access in the Private Content area so we can investigate.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hello Mike

    Thank you for your reply and my apologies for delay in responding.

    * If installing via the zip file – it uploads and then presents the error: ‘The link you followed has expired.’ We’ve downloaded and repeated several times in case there was a corruption in the downloaded file
    * If installing the unzipped folder via ftp, Enfold shows as an option in the themes section but when previewing/selecting it presents a ‘500 error’. The only way then to regain admin access is to delete the enfold folder via ftp which restores the default theme. Currently, it has the unzipped theme uploaded via ftp

    If you cannot resolve via admin access – details in private section below – and as FTP access is IP restricted and off by default.
    To give you temporary ftp access, I will need:
    * your IP address
    * the date/time you will be accessing
    * how long you will need access for i.e. 10/15/30 minutes etc.
    We are in the UK so please quote dates/times in British Summer Times and during normal office hours.

    It’s been about 6 years since we’ve used WordPress so if we are doing something stupid I apologise in advance. We have however checked, rinsed and repeated several times in an attempt to resolve ourselves.

    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your feedback, please provide ftp access because if activating the theme crashes the site ftp access with allow us to reset the site. I just would not want to crash it and have to wait for you to reset it.
    I tried a server check plugin and see that you have PHP v7.3.7 this look a little “if’y” for me, as v7.3.7 is not stable (in my experience) but this may not be the issue, I won’t know until I crash it :)
    Please see the Private Content area for my IP.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hello Mike.
    Thank you for your reply and my apologies for delay in responding.
    ## ftp details in private section.
    * PHP versions – the server initially had 7.2 but after checking WordPress requirements I asked the hosting company to upgrade to the WP recommended 7.3. I have we have the options of 7.0 / 7.1 / 7.2 and 7.3.
    * Also, WP was downloaded and installed from WP.org and NOT via the softilicious app in cPanel.
    * We have one of your other themes, Choices, installed many many years ago on a live (but very dormant) site. Didn’t have any probs with that.
    * We have more sites planned that, if we can Enfold to work, we may purchase and use again.
    Please advise if we can do anything this end to help.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the ftp access, I checked your error_log and found this error:

    Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted

    which is about 42mb, you have:
    WP Memory Limit: 256 MB
    PHP Post Max Size: 8 MB
    Max Upload Size: 2 MB
    PHP Max Input Vars: 1000
    PHP Time Limit: 30

    I tried to activate Enfold and got a crash and this error:

    Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () themes.php

    which I believe is due to the exhausted memory.
    I tried researching the error but found no solutions, but adjusting your settings might solve.
    Please ask your webhost to adjust to:
    PHP Post Max Size: 20 MB
    Max Upload Size: 20 MB
    PHP Max Input Vars: 3000
    PHP Time Limit: nolimit

    I tried uploading our latest beta, and the frontend of the theme worked, but only after disabling your Yoast & system check plugins.
    I found a post on WP about a similar issue where this happened no matter how much memory was allowed and it turned out the database was damaged.

    AUTO_INCREMENT for many (possibly all) tables had been set to NULL, and would not accept being manually reset.

    If the changes above don’t help, can you try reinstalling WP with the softilicious app in cPanel? I don’t think it would make a difference, but it’s worth a try.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hello Mike
    Thank you for your feedback – very much appreciated!
    I’ve updated the php.ini file as per your suggestions
    * I’ve activated Enfold – your beta version I think
    * Reactivated Yoast SEO
    and so far it hasn’t crashed. I haven’t done anything else yet.

    For anyone else who is having similar problems and has cPanel, apparently there is a MultiPHP INI Editor – so my hosting company advised me:
    * Click the MultiPHP INI Editor link, under the Software group
    * In the Select a location dropdown, select which domain these settings should apply to
    * Edit the settings as required
    * Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Apply button

    I will report back to hopefully confirm that all is resolved when I’ve actually updated Yoast ettings etc and added some content.

    Thank you again.
    Regards, Sharon
