What size image would you recommend uploading into the masonry gallery so that it works correctly?
One of the options in the settings is:
“Perfect Automatic Masonry: Display a grid where most images get the same size, only very wide images get twice the width and very high images get twice the height. To qualify for “very wide” or “very high” the image must have a aspect ratio of 16:9 or higher”I can’t find any info on using this correctly? From the Camera to photo shop…What size image should I be uploading to WordPress media?

It depends on the aspect ratio. As long as the height is 2x bigger than the width or vice versa then it should display as double.
Cheers!
ElliottFebruary 3, 2015 at 6:46 pm #390292I figured that part out but I’m still clueless as to what is the optimum size of the pictures when uploading? I’m all about speed of my websites and I need to know if this theme is specifying the dimensions via CSS ( it doesn’t look like it)… Specified dimensions that match those of the images themselves! I’d hate to take the site I’m working on live, only to have to go back and re-size and specify the height and width dimensions of each picture. Most people don’t pay attention to this and should, speed has a lot to do with ranking nowadays…. When a person comes to your site for the first time, they have an empty cache, I don’t want them spending 15 seconds for the pictures to load, they say, after 4 seconds and 90% of your possible clients are gone and it doesn’t matter how pretty your website is. In this case, for a photographer using the enfold photography demo theme, this would be so important because, their pictures speak for themselves!
Can you read this from GTmetrix and please advise:

Actually, the largest image that you will see on the masonry section is 705x705px, this is the specified thumbnail size for the masonry element, but the theme will determine the orientation of the images base on the original size uploaded. So it all comes down to image format and optimization. You can edit config-templatebuilder > avia-shortcodes > masonry_entries.php file if you want to specify the image dimension. It will take a major code rewrite though so you may need to hire a freelance developer.

IsmaelFebruary 5, 2015 at 2:30 am #391041Ok, let me ask you this then, If you were a photographer and you knew how to optimize and specify the image dimensions in photoshop…What size and resolution would you put them at and still be under 4 seconds load time before I upload to the site? I really appreciate you helping me on this but a photographer’s best selling point online will be his pictures and I want them to be smoking Hot and yet not hinder the speed of the site. If the largest pic is 705×705, would you just set all pic at 705px wide and let the height be what it is? I want to know how to make Your theme look the best in can but not get a Google slap for being too slow. I have other photographers interested in this theme and I want to know it inside and out…Help!

I’m not an SEO expert but if your site is focused on photography then I would just upload images big enough to make you happy and not care about how long it takes for them to download. Another option would be to upload thumbnails of your images and then offer links to the full size images next to them. This will let your page download fast and also give users the option of seeing the fullsize images.
You can check out some of these photography websites, http://www.vandelaydesign.com/best-photographer-portfolio-websites/, to see how other people handle this.
