    Hi,

    I have installed the enfold theme onto my wordpress site suechic.co.uk, however when I activated it I got the below error.
    Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/suechic/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php on line 31

    I then logged onto the ftp site, deleted the theme and re-uploaded it via ftp and still got the same error. I then tried deleting line 31 in that php file, after that I was able to get to the wordpress site again but when I tried to customise the theme I got the below error:

    Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/suechic/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/includes/loop-index.php on line 92

    Theme version is 4.5.7, PHP version is 5.4.45, host has advised they are unable to update the PHP version at the moment due to it causing issues with other sites on the server.

    Please help.

    Hey Jess,

    The likely cause of your problem is the PHP version you are running, the minimum PHP version recommended to run WordPress on is currently 5.6.2. I would recommend that you to look for a better hosting provider if you current one can’t offer you PHP 7.x.
