    Hello team

Earlier this evening I was getting a ‘Call to undefined method WP_Screen::is_block_editor() in /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/script-loader.php on line 2385’ message on my site thegreatbarndevon.co.uk after (manually) updating to WordPress 5.0.3

To fix this error message, I followed instructions in this page https://wordpress.org/support/topic/5-0-and-script-loader-php-error-message/

Please see last 3 entries in the above web page for the required information, which also recommends updating the PHP version. My site was running on PHP 5.6 and I manually updated it to PHP 7.0.

The customer facing side of the website appears to be working correctly, HOWEVER when I am in the WordPress admin dashboard and try to create a new post or page, I get the following error message:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function gutenberg_can_edit_post_type() in /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php:517 Stack trace: #0 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php(1060): Avia_Gutenberg->can_use_block_editor(‘post’) #1 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php(1076): Avia_Gutenberg->needs_block_editor_extra_data() #2 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(286): Avia_Gutenberg->handler_avf_builder_boxes(Array) #3 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php(203): WP_Hook->apply_filters(Array, Array) #4 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-template-builder/config/meta.php(23): apply_filters(‘avf_builder_box…’, Array) #5 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarn in /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php on line 517

Anyone got any ideas about how to fix this issue, please?

    Best regards

    Oliver

    Hi Oliver,

I haven’t seen this happening on any other installations so I’m not sure what is the cause of it. First off, could you try to disable all plugins to see if there is a conflict coming from any of them please?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard
I disabled all of the site’s plugins, cleared my browser cache, and tried logging in using an incognito window.
Regret to advise that the problem is still here. This is the error message I get when logging in to my site’s admin dashboard:
    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function gutenberg_can_edit_post_type() in /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php:517 Stack trace: #0 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php(1004): Avia_Gutenberg->can_use_block_editor(‘post’) #1 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(286): Avia_Gutenberg->handler_wp_admin_menu(”) #2 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(310): WP_Hook->apply_filters(NULL, Array) #3 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php(453): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #4 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-admin/includes/menu.php(149): do_action(‘admin_menu’, ”) #5 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-admin/menu.php(294): require_once(‘/var/sites/t/th…’) #6 /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-adm in /var/sites/t/thegreatbarndevon.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-gutenberg/class-avia-gutenberg.php on line 517

Over to you. Any ideas what is causing this?
    Best regards
    Oliver

    Hi oliverstone,

Please try to re-upload Enfold via FTP and see if the issue remains.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria
Already tried re-uploading via FTP the latest version of Enfold (downloaded from Themeforest). The issue remains. :(((

Any ideas what might be causing this issue, please?

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. Are we allowed to disable all plugins for testing purposes?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1057736

    Hi Rikard
Please do not disable the plugins. I already tried this. The issue remained. See earlier reply (to you) on January 22. Ref reply #1057195.
I have website updates piling up.
So, what I have done to ‘restore’ my website to working order is a file rollback to January 13 which used an older version WordPress 4.9.8. Enfold remains at the latest version 4.5.2.
This rollback to an older version of WordPress has resolved the issue. No more fatal error messages :))))))
In my view, the issues were caused after updating to WordPress 5.0.3. Enfold and WordPress did not work happily together :(
    Best regards

    Hi Oliver,

Great, glad you got it back to a working state. We haven’t had many user report errors like this so it’s likely something local to your site which is causing the problem. If you should need further help then maybe you could create a staging version of the site and perform the update there so you don’t have to risk your production site?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Just wanted to say, I got the same error when trying to install Bulk Edit Posts and Products in Spreadsheet plugin.
The difference is, the whole backend doesn’t work until I manually, delete the plugin via ftp.

    Hi,

I am afraid you’ll need to contact the plugin author for more info about the issue. Making third-party plugins compatible with the theme is unfortunately beyond the support scope we offer. Sorry for that!

    Best regards,
    Vinay
