    Hello,

I’m having issues with functionality in WordPress 4.7.3 after Enfold 2.5.4 is activated.

The controls on the Enfold Theme Options page do not respond.

The “Advanced Layout Editor” button does not work when editing pages.

The Visual/Text tabs do not work on the WordPress page editor (they work fine in the default 2017 theme, but not in Enfold).

The Enfold link on the WordPress menu only shows “Enfold Theme Options”. There are no other sub-items available.
In other words – Styling / General Settings / Header / Sidebar / Footer and Theme Update are not accessible under the Enfold menu option in the left column.

It seems like the Javascript is broken in WordPress. I see the following errors in the JavaScript Console (firefox)…

When clicking on the Enfold entry in left column…
    Syntax error, unrecognized expression a[rel=]

When clicking on Advanced Layout Editor…
    typeError: e is undefined

Again, I am attempting to use Enfold 2.5.4 with WordPress 4.7.3

Is there a conflict with these versions?

    Thanks.

hm – and this is not a joke-thread – are you sure? “my Adobe Creative Cloud 2017 does not work under Windows 3.11” ? :lol

sorry thats not polite – but indeed this is a bit strange – because you have a lifetime update – why do you want to use the very old version of enfold?

    #769086

Ummm….I think you are quite a few versions behind with Enfold. So much has changed. You need to update the theme. I’m pretty sure that will resolve your issue.

    #769153

Guenni007, actually, I don’t know where to download the updates!
And it’s only been since 2014. You would expect things not to break down so severely after just a couple of years.
I like to put up a web site and just have it run… WORRY FREE… not constantly maintain it with upgrades.
What would your customers think if WordPress updated itself automatically, but their site broke down because the theme was no longer compatible? Not very happy customers!
It’s ok though, I can always use a bit of humor :)

slui, thanks for your reply. Where is the download section on this site so I can grab the update?
I would like to update the theme, but first I would like a moderator here to check my site and confirm there is an incompatibility.

    Too funny!
I wouldn’t normally come to the defence of a software developer, but as a huge fan of the Kriesi and Enfold support team I have to step in …

    @markofwits
    – you can hardly complain about one piece of software being incompatible with another when you update one and not the other! Particularly that the versions are so far apart. If you have 2.5.4 of Enfold, that’s even before the change logs listed on Themeforest which date back to May 2014. At that time, WordPress was on build 3.9 (April 2014). Since that time, WordPress has released 102 builds! Hardly fair to blame Enfold.

Anyway, you can find the download link once you login to your themeforest account https://themeforest.net.

You can find the download link under your account, see this screenshot from the Enfold Support Docs. You can see the Downloads link on the menu dropdown. http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/12/themeforest-API-Key.png

I hope this helps and you manage to update the theme and get it working. :)

markofwits – this may be better coming from a customer rather than from the enfold team so I will try to help.

I hate to have to break it to you but in this day and age leaving a WordPress site unattended without updates is not an option.

Wordpress releases updates several times a year – and more frequently with security patches that address serious issues. Plugins tend to update to reflect this and well maintained themes such as this one do the same as well as providing regular enhancement releases.

The WordPress sites I manage are updated to current versions – core , plugins, themes – at least once a month. Often more frequently and particularly when a know security issue is addressed. A week later and you’ll find a few plugins already need another update.

This is the reality of the modern web – not just for WordPress installs – and if you don’t keep on top of this your site will be compromised sooner or later, your reputation will suffer and you will get penalised or blocked by browsers and search engines.

Enfold is one of the best maintained theme I am aware of and I wouldn’t trust my business, or anybody else’s, to one that did not update as regularly and proactively as they do.

If you need to run a content management system such as WP and are not able/prepared to jump through the required hoops I would suggest you hire someone or a service to do it for you – plenty of WP maintenance services have sprung up over the past few years to address just this situation.

Alternatively, if you absolutely have to leave a site unattended for 3 years a simple flat file standards compliant html is probably the way to go.

I hope this helps – if some of us are wondering whether this is a serious question it is simply because we probably start getting nervous if we leave a site unmaintained for a week let alone for 3 years.

You can download the latest version of Enfold from your Themeforest account – log in and click the Downloads link. You will then need to manually update (FTP) the theme – and after this long I would suggest doing so in a staging environment to iron out any bugs before committing it to the live site. There is a still valid guide to updating here: http://kriesi.at/archives/the-complete-guide-to-updating-enfold

But as I say earlier the best advice if you are not comfortable doing this yourself is probably to seek the help of a professional and affordable WordPress maintenance service as updating this old an installation is probably beyond the scope of general Enfold support by now.

    Hope this helps, M

Nice to see another participant couldn’t pass this one by Heathcliffe :)

Heathcliffe, thanks for stepping in (I think).
Please note, I’m not blaming anyone at this point.
I simply wanted confirmation that my Enfold 2.5.4 is the cause of various WordPress issues I’m experiencing.
That’s all. Everything else on the site is completely up to date.
After 3 years, I decided to pick up WordPress again, and toss a quick site together with the latest release, as a refresher.
Then I noticed my Enfold 2.5.4 was seemingly causing issues.
My web site customer scenario was hypothetical, luckily.
I didn’t realize I was entitled to lifetime updates of Enfold. Just found out today.
But there is no longer an Enfold download link in my Themeforest account. No idea why it was removed, but I have a ticket in to them.
    Thanks again for the help.

    M1000000, thanks for the reply.
This is just a sample site I’m creating as a WordPress refresher. No actual sites were left unmaintained :)
There is no longer an Enfold download link in my Themeforest account.
No idea why it was removed, but I have a ticket into them.
All I want is for a Kriesi rep to check my site and say… “yes, the old version of Enfold is causing many of the WordPress features to break, so please update it.”
But all of your points were well taken :)

    You’re welcome.
No need for anyone to check your site really. I can tell you for an absolute fact that if you are using a 3+ year old version of this – or any theme – on the latest version of WP all sorts of stuff is going to fail!
On the bright side – you are going to like the improvements to Enfold – accounting for web years you are currently driving a model T ford ;)

    #769474

yes markofwits – your right with :

I like to put up a web site and just have it run… WORRY FREE… not constantly maintain it with upgrades.
What would your customers think if WordPress updated itself automatically, but their site broke down because the theme was no longer compatible? Not very happy customers!

But all those idiots in former times destroying phone booth (don’t know if younger people do know them at all) are now in the internet.
So security updates are necessary. The fast-paced world is always asking for more learning and constant attention.

So for my customers i got an automated backup monthly – and if the site is down caused by these Inconsistencies – i never have a totaly breakdown for more than 1 hour from customer call.

btw. be happy with enfold – f.e. microsoft allway do some updates – and third party (or even MS Software itself) do not run then under new conditions – and often the other updates will cost some money to avoid crashes.

PS: i would advise you to update your theme via ftp. It seems to be the most secure way. If you are working with a child-Theme – erase the whole enfold folder and upload the new enfold again.

    Hey!

You are currently using a very old version of Enfold which is definitely not compatible with WordPress version you are using. Updating the theme, as other participants mentioned, would fix the issues you are having :)

Please refer to this post – kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/ and update the theme to the latest version 4.0.4 :)

Since you are using a very old version, you may need to reconfigure some options/settings such as your widgets. As WordPress now requires ID’s for widget areas and Enfold provides them however that may reset your widget areas.

    Thanks @guenni007, @slui, @heathcliffe and @m1000000 for your helps! :)

    Cheers!
    Yigit
