On my posts page the blurbs all show with a little square thumbnail next to them. And that thumbnail is created from the post’s featured image. Unfortunately, often the crop looks terrible as the system crops a long horizontal image into a square shape. Also, sometimes they are cut off.

Is there anyway to set the thumbnail myself? Or to have the thumbnail aspect ratio match that of the featured image?

    Hey Dandelion222,

If you want to change the thumbnail size, you can see the options at Enfold Theme Options > Blog layout > Blog styling.

Thanks but could you be more specific? I don’t see anything about changing the aspect ratio of the thumbnail images. I tried the 2 other “blog styles” but I didn’t like them any better, plus they still had the small square thumbnail.

Those articles are not helpful! Are you telling me that there is NO WAY to tell enfold to not force that tiny square crop on blog pages? That I have to do some special coding? And what coding? In CSS, In PHP? I’d prefer you actually use a full sentence or 2 to explain to me what is happening before just throwing a couple of links at me. By the way – both those articles had every image link in the article broken, so no, not helpful.

I am not creating or cropping these thumbnails! This happens automatically. I have made sure that Settings > Media is unchecked to not force the thumbnail size but but when I added a new image it made no difference.

In the Private Content area are links to 2 additional enfold sites that also have this tiny square thumbnail by default. I did nothing to make this look like this, it was the Enfold theme default. The thumbnail crop is coded into the page. I did not change it. It pulls the image from the featured image of the post – which is not square but horizontal. A lot of times it looks okay and I don’t worry about it. But sometimes it looks awful and I want to change it. Like now.

Also in the Private Content area are links to 2 Enfold sites that do not have tiny square thumbnails. I did not build these sites but I know they are enfold and that the designer didn’t use any special code.

So clearly it is possible. Please help me find that setting.

    Hi Dandelion222,

It’s not the theme, that generates thumbs, it’s WordPress, it only uses settings from the theme if there such settings there. If you don’t like the cropped thumb and don’t want to control it by any means, you have to prepare images that would crop appropriately. Media settings are actually in WordPress, you can play around with them. Also here is an overview of plugins to complement and have more control over thumbs generation.

Thank you Victoria for this helpful information. I understand better and I did not realize that Enfold did not have any theme settings for how the images on blog posts will appear by default. That would certainly explain the “coincidence” that the default WP media setting of thumbs is 80 x 80 pixels, and that’s what they are on my pages.

Something that still confuses me, however, is why, when I adjust the settings in Enfold > Blog Layout to one of the other options that I see no difference. Also, when I open my posts page, and employ the Advanced Layout Editor and try to set up a content element of “blog posts” and choose one of the alternate presentations from the drop down – even grid layout – I still see no change.

I feel like there must be a setting I am missing. Something that is overriding the options I am making in Enfold settings.

I think you have explained why the thumbs are that size to start with. But I still have an issue with my Enfold setting changes not having an effect.

    Hi,

The settings you make in Enfold > Theme Options is overwritten by the settings you set in the blog post element on the page.

Theme options settings is a global setting and in any of the pages when you set up the blog element with a different setting from the global setting is given more importance.

It’s not clear what exactly you are trying to achieve please point us to the demo here http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold-overview/ what you like to achieve and we will tell you exactly how to achieve it or where to change the settings.

    Hi,

I would like my page to look like http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/blog/blog-single-author-big/

and later, when we have more posts, I may change to: http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/blog/blog-grid/

I have tried to chose these, both at the Enfold settings level and at the page level using Advanced Editor, but without effect.

Currently my site is displaying “single author small” (http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/blog/blog-single-small/) and I would like that if only it didn’t force the thumbnail images to be square because they crop my pictures too much. Is there a way to have this layout but specify a change to the image size? Or aspect ratio?

    Hi Dandelion222,

Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look.

    Here you go.

    #777274

    Hi Dandelion222,

Please check the page in private. Is this the way? This is set in Theme Options > Blog Layout.
Here http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/blog/blog-single-author-big/ the content width is 752px, that’s why it looks smaller. The content part on your website is 884px.
Here is what it’s going to look like with narrower content.

If you need further assistance please let us know.

OMG. I swear that’s what I did, more than once, with no change! I have set it to grid view now. I’m not sure if I want grid or large banner, but this is okay for now. Thanks!
