Quick question: when i post a .pdf (and check to open it in a new window), it works fine in Safari. But, in Chrome, it automatically downloads the file, when I would rather have it simply display (with an option to download). Is there a way to fix this? thanks! Jen

    Hi AirstreamCoach!

    Duplicated – https://kriesi.at/support/topic/displaying-pdfs-2/
Please try using a plugin such as this one – https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-post-to-pdf-enhanced/

Hi, thanks for your super speedy reply! I checked this plug in, and it’s cool, but this actually is not what I am looking for. Let me see if I can state my question a little more clearly:

I have several .pdfs posted on my website, which are intended mainly for viewing on the website (visitors may wish to download them as well, Safari provides them that prompt).

When viewed in safari, they display fine. When clicked in Chrome they do not display within the webpage but go directly to download instead. I would like to just have them display and not download automatically. is that possible?

I hope that makes more sense now…
    thanks much. Jen

    Hey AirstreamCoach!

If you or your users are using the latest version of chrome, PDFs should automatically be opened in the same or new tab because of the chrome pdf viewer.

The only other reason I can think of for it downloading straight away is if you have the “Ask where to save each file before downloading” setting unchecked in chrome.
