Hi there,
I want to create a site with a few different custom post types (acitivities, projects, courses, etc.). All these custom post types should have an individual page where the posts should be displayed from new to old, just like a blog.
I wanted to use Avia’s Blog Posts-element, but in the settings I don’t see an option to show posts from a certain Post Type. Instead it is possible to show posts with a certain category and I could choose for this approach, but this means that with every new post the corresponding category should be checked. This feels like an unnecessary step in the process. Isn’t there a better (more user friendly) approach?
October 8, 2015 at 4:02 pm #515920Hi Qombine!
You can select custom taxonomies to use with the Blog Posts element. When you create your post type give it a custom taxonomy to use. You can use a plugin such as Custom Post Types UI to easily create post types and taxonomies.

Thanks for the message!
I’ve tried this approach with WP_Types, but so far I’m not seeing the Custom Taxonomy in the options. Here are some screenshots of my current settings:

I haven’t used that plugin. I’ve used the Custom Post Types UI though, https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/, and can confirm it works fine.
Cheers!
ElliottOctober 8, 2015 at 4:53 pm #515975I’ve given Custom Post Types UI a try, but I’m getting the same result.
With ‘Display entries from a custom taxonomy’ selected in the Blog Posts-element, should I be able to select the Custom Taxonomy with the dropdown ‘Which Entries?’..?
I only see the options Category and Post Format in that dropdown.Maybe you can give me some pointers of settings for the Custom Taxonomy and the Custom Post Type?

October 8, 2015 at 5:00 pm #515987Hey!
Are you sure you actually created a custom taxonomy for the post types? And added some posts to it? If so then it should be selectable in the blog posts shortcode. Send us a WordPress login.

October 8, 2015 at 5:06 pm #515991Currently I’m working local so I can’t give you access yet.
Maybe you can look at the settings of the Custom Post Type and Custom Taxonomy in these screenshots?

October 9, 2015 at 8:41 am #516216Hi,
I think it’s easier to look at a live installation, please let us know when you have moved the site online.

October 10, 2015 at 12:12 pm #516767Hey!
You didn’t add any terms to the “activiteiten” taxonomy. Please edit the post:
http://anv.qombine.nl/wp-admin/post.php?post=547&action=edit
Set the “Hierarchical” option to true if you want it to work like the default post category.
Cheers!
IsmaelOctober 12, 2015 at 11:26 am #517263Hi Ismael,
When I add a term I’m seeing the custom post type appearing in the options.
This is progress, thanks!October 13, 2015 at 7:45 am #517862Hi,
Great, please let us know if you should need any more help on the topic.
Thanks,
RikardOctober 13, 2015 at 8:59 am #517883Well, I thought I had posted a question about how to make it so my client doesn’t have to check a category.
This part of my reply seems to be vanished, or I must’ve dreamed that I wrote it.But since then I’ve already managed to do this with a bit of PHP.
So for now I’m satisfied, thanks!- This reply was modified 9 years, 1 month ago by Qombine.
