Customizing single-portfolio & loop-portfolio in a child theme

Hey guys,

What files and/or functions are necessary in a child theme folder so that I could customize the loop of a single-portfolio-item?

I do not have anything else in the child theme besides functions.php & style.css at this time. Functions.php only has one function adding a filter to avia_post_grid_query.

I’ve added copies of single-portfolio.php & includes/loop-portfolio-single.php to the child theme directory but WP isn’t looking to the files.

The permalink is changed for my single portfolio items to “resident”, and I’ve changed the file names to reflect that, but still no luck.

I’ve searched throughout the forums, but haven’t found any answers yet.
