Hi all,
I’m new to Enfold, and currently familiarizing myself with its details in a small test website. With Firefox I found that an Enfold page even with trivial contents loads about 400kb of CSS and JavaScript files each. This looks like a massive amount to me, and bad for page load speed.Is there a way to reduce the size of the CSS and JavaScript files, e.g. by disabling the portions that are not needed?
As a related question, is there or will there be an HTML-template release of Enfold?
My “problem” is that besides WordPress, my website has a phpBB forum and a DokuWiki wiki, and I would like to style them all with the same headers and footers, which seems to be a surprisingly tough endeavor…Many thanks for the otherwise truly excellent Enfold theme and best regards,
CarstenI hope you don’t mind me saying, I do find the Enfold theme slow compared to other themes at the same host. I have seen “Minify” plugins but am unsure what they really do and if to install or not.

The best way to optimize your site is to use a caching plugin such as W3C total cache or WP Supercache, etc.

With Firebug, I see about 425kB of CSS and another 427kB of JavaScript being loaded here.The cache plugins will only minify/compress these files, but they won’t remove e.g. the CSS that is unused, won’t they?
For example, we neither use Shop nor BBPress features, so it would seem highly useful to me to not include these portions in the first place, rather than try to compress them?Best regards,

The bbPress stylesheet should only load if you have bbPress activated and when your viewing a topic, forum, etc etc.
I viewed your link and it’s loading very fast for me (2.01 seconds). I don’t really think your site needs optimizing right now. If you get any speed gains at all they will be very minimal that you won’t be able to notice them.
But definitely check out the BWP minify plugin if you want to compress the theme CSS.

But please consider that the test page is now at a bare minimum: there is nearly no contents in it at all. And even now it loads 425kB of CSS alone.
Also, please let me emphasize again that I do not want to “compress” the CSS (only as a last resort, of course). I’d much rather reduce it in the first place!Therefore please let me repeat my question:
Is there a way to reduce the size of the CSS and JavaScript files, e.g. by disabling the portions that are not needed?(For example, it would be great if we could enable and disable “features”, which in turn load or omit the related CSS and JS files.)
