Hi
I am supporter on a website developed with Enfold as a theme.
I have not developed the site, but have recently started to support it.The contactform on the frontpage is spammed – big time.
How do I stop it?
How do enfold handle spam on forms? Are there any form of Honeypot plugin the I need to activate? In this usecase I can’t use a chapta, so the only way of stopping it is a kind of Honeypot I think.Thanks for your help in advance.
Regards Niels.

Thank you for using Enfold.
The contact form in the theme is pretty basic and you can’t integrate the same “honeypot” plugin. The only frontend security that is available is the captcha field. You can either enable that feature or install another contact form plugin such as the Contact Form 7.

Thanks for your answer.
I was under the impression that Enfold included some kind of honeypot
When I look at http://kriesi.at/themes/enfold/shortcodes/contact-forms/ it says “Contact forms come with hidden spam protection and if thats not enough also a simple math CAPTCHA”
– the “hidden spam protection” I would imagine is a honeypot.In my form there is a hidden field I did not make – can’t it be configured somewhere?
Regards Niels
August 27, 2016 at 3:56 pm #678431Hey!
The “hidden spam protection” is referring to the decoy function which creates a hidden field.
/**
* decoy
*
* The decoy method creates input elements with type text but with an extra class that hides them
* The method is used to fool bots into filling the form element. Upon submission we check if the element contains any value, if so we dont submit the form
* @param string $id holds the key of the element
* @param array $element data array of the element that should be created

Anyway it do not work. We got lots of spam with this decoy enabled.Regards Niels

Please activate the captcha field. Or use the Contact Form 7 so that you can install the Honeypot plugin.

I would love to activate the decoy function.
How do I go about it?
Thank you!!

PS: I enabled captcha but these spammers are relentless – so I get less spam but still there is spam.February 16, 2024 at 6:29 pm #1434536Hi,
The hidden spam protection is enabled by default, if you are still having trouble with spam then please use the Contact Form 7 with one of these addons:
AntiSpam for Contact Form 7
Email Validator for Contact Form 7
Honeypot for Contact Form 7Best regards,
