    I recently upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.4.1 and noticed my comments section has stopped working.
    It seems that the wordpress function comments_open() no longer works and returns false in all cases.

    In the development site running 4.1.2 all works as expected with exactly the same code.

    Has something changed in the upgrade to affect the comments function? If so, what do I need to do to fix this?
