Hi-
(sorry if I posted this already- I can’t locate it)
I just updated to the current version via my File Manager. I replaced the Enfold folder leaving the child theme alone. Now I can’t get the theme to work. I get the spinning loading icon. When I switched to the Enfold parent theme, the site worked. So it seems I just need to know what to do about the child theme. Are there some files/folders I should replace without hurting my customization?
the site has not yet launched
thanks!!
September 23, 2018 at 10:46 am #1013270Hi KK!
It seems like one or more child theme files conflict with the parent theme.
Please try following:
1) Make a backup of the child theme
2) Then rename (or delete) the php scripts in the child theme folder one by one and check if the website works afterwards. If the website loads properly you’ve found the culprit. Then copy the other scripts back to the child theme folder and check the website again if it still works.
3) Tell us which script conflicts with the parent theme and we’ll review the code of that script.Regards,
PeterSeptember 23, 2018 at 7:01 pm #1013385thanks-
yes, it is in the functions.phpSeptember 23, 2018 at 7:32 pm #1013388Hey!
I checked the code and the issue is caused by the customized enfold-child/js/avia.js. Please make a backup of this file, then copy the new avia.ja from the parent theme folder to the enfold-child/js/ folder and modify/customize the new avia.js again.Best regards,
PeterSeptember 23, 2018 at 11:08 pm #1013426I’m having to restore the site cuz it got messed up….

Thanks for the the update, did the site get messed up after doing what Peter suggested or something else?
Best regards,
RikardSeptember 24, 2018 at 5:23 am #1013480yeah- it was following the instructions that made it break, but I am not experienced enough to re-customize the avia.js file
September 24, 2018 at 6:52 pm #1013751Hi kbarranco,
Do you remember which customizations were applied to that file?
Best regards,
VictoriaSeptember 24, 2018 at 6:54 pm #1013753it is still being restored. right now bluehost is checking into evrything. They said it is a problem with my theme.
September 24, 2018 at 9:48 pm #1013867ok- I was told the site is back but I need to update my theme. Last time I tried, I had some issues. Can someone please update this for me and get it up and running?
September 24, 2018 at 11:56 pm #1013915I uploaded the new parent theme. But the site is not seeing the child theme.
September 25, 2018 at 4:57 am #1013968Hi,
I can’t see a child theme on your installation either, is it uploaded to the themes folder? If not then please try doing so first.
It might be a good idea if you post FTP login details as well so that we can access the server.
Best regards,
RikardSeptember 25, 2018 at 5:11 am #1013973Yeah- it is there in the file manager.
I put it in the folder after bluehost moved it.
I’m scared I am going to lose it.FTP below

VictoriaSeptember 25, 2018 at 6:50 pm #1014381Thanks- I know the parent theme is updated. I can’t get the child theme to show up so I can activate it. I see it in my file manager but not in the ENFOLD -> APPEARANCE -> THEMES area so that I can activate it. I need my customization back.
September 25, 2018 at 8:17 pm #1014450The child theme was in a different level directory. I just moved it in the right place now.
but the original problem is still there with the spinning loading icon.
Back to square one problem.
and my plugins are gone. Should I do another restore from bluehost??- This reply was modified 6 years, 3 months ago by kbarranco.
September 27, 2018 at 3:17 am #1015075(I’ve been posting to the wrong thread- argh)
No- not working, I got the child theme in place but I am having the same problem that started all of this.
I can get to the backend, but the front end just spins and spins. I can see anything.
The parent theme seems to work fine but I need my customization from my child theme.September 27, 2018 at 10:13 am #1015203Hi,
We need to now which code you customized in enfold/js/avia.js. Otherwise we’re not able to provide you instructions how to customize avia.js for the current theme version. If you’re not sure if the customized avia.js is required you can simply comment out the enqueue code in functions.php.
Best regards,
PeterSeptember 29, 2018 at 12:10 am #1015955I just got the site restored but can’t access it.
The file I found to have a problem (when I went via Peter’s instructions) was functions.php” you can simply comment out the enqueue code in functions.php.”
can you explain?October 1, 2018 at 6:10 am #1016419Hi,

I have no idea what is going on. I had bluehost restore the site a few days ago-October 1, 2018 at 7:09 am #1016437login is same as above:
October 1, 2018 at 8:22 am #1016460Hi,
“Why did you copy every WoocCommerce template files in your child theme? ”
There are copies of the WooCommerce templates in your child theme. Please remove those files if you’re not using them.
Best regards,
IsmaelOctober 1, 2018 at 8:29 am #1016462I don’t really know what to remove besides the file called “templates2”. Or should I ask –what should be in there?
Could the Bluehost people have done that? I haven’t even been in this folder to know enough about dragging files in there. help!update- i am having the bluehost tech people look into it

October 2, 2018 at 7:14 am #1016909Hi,
Alright. Let us know if they found anything. Unfortunately, we can’t help you distinguish which files have been modified or not. You should contact the developer who modified the child theme.
Best regards,
IsmaelOctober 2, 2018 at 5:45 pm #1017164Unfortunately, I am my “developer”. I followed the directions above. right now I am yet again, trying to get it restored from Tier2 tech support at bluehost. The first problem was found in the functions.php as stated above. Hopefully, the restore will work. thanks
October 3, 2018 at 8:57 am #1017398Hi,
I actually disabled a few lines of codes in the functions.php to remove some errors but I think the issue lies on the unwanted template files in the child theme. Please do the restore and then check if the template files are still in the child theme folder.
Best regards,
IsmaelOctober 3, 2018 at 10:42 pm #1017626thanks- I’m going to be cautious this time. Here is what I got back from Bluehost tech support:
“Thank you for contacting customer support, I’m following up on the issues with your account. I have provided a copy of your public_html and mysql contents within the BackupNow folder in your home directory. You should be able to perform a manual restoration of your web files through there.”
Is this out of scope? or can someone take a look. I don;t want to touch it. Right now- nothing is showing up.
October 8, 2018 at 2:24 am #1018751Hi,
You may need to do this yourself because we can’t help you track back your own modifications.
Best regards,
IsmaelOctober 8, 2018 at 5:31 am #1018786ok- this “Backupnow” is the freshly restored files from prior to the time of the troubleshooting problems.
