Hello,
When creating my existing site I did not consider a child theme…
I read the response #567879 but I don’t know which files I have modified… except Quick CSS (+ WooCommerce and Yoast Seo) I don’t understand what meaning “When you activate Enfold child theme, you can go to Enfold theme options and import parent theme options with a single click”
I prepare the layout of my site, it is not finished but I do not want to lose what has already been done.
Can you help me about that ?
Thank you
Best regards
BigiMay 3, 2017 at 10:47 pm #787457the Point of your thread will be : “I don’t know which files I have modified”
All Settings and Changings on Enfold Options Dialog you can import via that Button “Import Parent Theme Settings” on Theme Options / Import/Export.But if you have edited functions.php or any other file of your parent-theme – these changings will be not transfered!
So if you want to use a child-theme you have to know that!btw. that is the reason why a use of a child-theme is best. Because you can update the parent theme without loosing those changings on child-theme.
All Changings will be made on Child-Theme FilesMay 3, 2017 at 11:10 pm #787464Ok, thank you. I think I think all the changes come from the dashboard (it’s Enfold Options Dialog ?) but I’m not sure…
What kind of change could I have made via functions.php? Question…May 4, 2017 at 6:59 am #787613Hi,
If you haven’t made any changes to any of the core files, then you could simply export the settings from the parent in the theme options, then install the child and activate it, then import the settings to the child.

RikardMay 4, 2017 at 9:54 am #787672But nevertheless you can do that and look if there are on the frontend any changes if not you can leave the child activated – if so you can reactivate your partent theme.
so what to do-
- download the child-theme from documentation page here
- unzip and upload the folder “enfold-child” to your themes folder (adjacent to enfold folder)
- goto Dashboard – Enfold (this is only for paranoid reasons) – Import/Export and 2nd Button “Export Theme Settings File”
- goto Dashboard – Appearance and activate the Child-Theme.
- Goto Dashboard – Enfold-Child – Import/Export and press the button on top “Import Parent Theme Settings” – ( if there is a message that there are no Parent Settings – upload the parent theme settings file via 3rd Button on Import/Export – “Import Theme Settings File” and choose the file you downloaded on step 3
- have a look if there are changings on your frontend
May 4, 2017 at 9:55 am #787673Dear Mods i tried to set here an ol but there are no numbers seen
- abc

- ghi
there is a css missing like:
#bbpress-forums ol li { list-style: outside none decimal; }

I will try this solution (import / export), thank you.
I think the last two answers are not for me, no ?

BigiMay 17, 2017 at 6:16 am #794649Hi Bigi,
Thanks for the feedback, so everything is working as it should now?

RikardMay 17, 2017 at 9:12 am #794714Hi Rikard,
Yes, everything is working as it should. Even if my website is very simple, it’s really easy to activate the child theme, even with a parent theme already set. What about last update ? I am afraid to read all messages such as update killed my website, in support ;-)
What is the procedure ? Perform a new backup and make the update from the child theme ?Thank you
Best regards
BigiMay 17, 2017 at 11:46 am #794794Hi,
Yes, always do a backup before updating themes or plugins on your site, that way you will be safe if anything should break. You could also have a local or staging copy of your site and do the updates there first.

RikardOctober 4, 2018 at 2:31 pm #1017910Can I pick up on this conversation. I also stupidly did not set up a child theme and modified the parent theme. I followed the instructions above and the child theme does pick up much of my modifications from the parent, but not all.
Is it possible that it would be just the changes I have made in the Enfold styling section, such as colours, fonts and the Quick CSS updates? I can definitely see that it hasn’t picked up my change to colours and fonts. And although the child theme displays my quick css codes it doesn’t seem to show them on the front end.
What should I do to get it exact? I am nearly there!
October 5, 2018 at 7:02 am #1018152Hi Louise_Brace,
Did you export your settings from the parent to the child? Please do so if you haven’t. If the settings don’t apply then please try to change a setting, save, then reload the page again.
Best regards,
RikardOctober 5, 2018 at 10:08 am #1018202Yes I did export the settings. I followed the instructions someone left exactly, and most of the modifications have been applied to the child. But font, colour scheme, and some of the quick css coding hasn’t been applied even though it’s there in the quick css box in the child theme.
So should I save these modifications outside of the site and then put them back into the child theme?
October 5, 2018 at 10:48 am #1018226I think I have made it work! I just deactivated and reactivated the child theme a couple of times and now it seems to have picked up all of the changes.
October 5, 2018 at 10:58 am #1018234Hi,

RikardJanuary 4, 2019 at 4:53 pm #1050043I added a child theme successfully with one site, using the instructions above. But another I just can’t get it to pick up all the changes. Can I ask someone to take a look please? Access details below.
