    Hi

I’m considering using a child-theme, however I wonder whether my understanding is correct and what the benefits are.

    1) I understand, that all my customizations that used to live in the custom.css file will go into the style.css file of the child-theme. Correct?

    2) I understand that all (other) theme-files that I modified will go into the child-theme (in the same folder they lived in the parent theme). Correct?

    3) Up to now I used to update my theme I manually. I only replaced the files listed in the changelog, then applied my modifications to them, if needed. What is the benefit if I use a child-theme? I understand that I will need to replace and modify the files of the child-theme just the same. The only difference I can see is, that I might need to replace fewer files manually (i.e. only those with modifications) and the parent files could be updated “automatically”. Correct?

    Thanks for clarification.

    Hey Bruno

    1- Yes, that is correct
2- That is correct as well but solution may vary depending on the file. For ALB elements for example – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/add-new-or-replace-advanced-layout-builder-elements-from-child-theme/
3- It is always recommended to update all files and when you are using a child theme, you can go ahead and update parent theme files.

    Cheers!

    Hi Yigit

    thanks for the ultrafast reply!
I also appreciate your creating tutorials (I assume this should also help you with redundant questions).
For future reference I’m also trying to create my own database with codes and resources I come across browsing the support forum.

    Cheers,

    Bruno
