    Hi there
    I am currently on Enfold 4.0.5 and WordPress 4.7.12. clickrepublic.co.uk

    If I simply upgrade the Enfold Theme to 4.5.3 (via FTP) the site breaks.
    If I upgrade WP first (to 5.0.3) the front end stays ok, but the Avia Layout editor doesn’t load in the CMS, If I then load the latest Enfold via FTP, the site breaks again.

    Hey clickrepublic,

    What exactly do you mean by that it breaks? Try to explain what happens as detailed as possible. Also, which version of PHP are you running on the server?

    Hi Rikard

    So just to unpack this issue:

    If I upgrade WP first (to 5.0.3) the front end stays ok, but the Avia Layout editor doesn’t load in the CMS, If I then load the latest Enfold via FTP, the site breaks with the following error:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare av_countdown_events_fallback() (previously declared in /homepages/6/d130392294/htdocs/clickrepublic/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php:16) in /homepages/6/d130392294/htdocs/clickrepublic/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php on line 8

    The site is currently running on PHP 5.6 But I tried upgrading to PHP 7.0 and 7.1, but I was getting the same problem.

    Hi clickrepublic,

    Try to do the following steps:
    1. Backup your site and put it in maintenance mode
    2. Switch to a default wordpress theme like twentynineteen
    3. Delete the outdated Enfold theme
    4. Upload the latest version of Enfold (enfold.zip) then set it as the active theme again and turn off maintenance.

    Thanks Nikko – that seemed to work. (It wouldn’t allow me to upload the zip file, but uploading it via FTP was ok).
