I have selected the burger menu format for phones but the burger menu doesn’t work. When you click it, nothing happens. Can you help me figure out what I’m doing wrong please?

    Hi,
It looks like your minify’ed header and footer js from maxcdn is not loading.
Please disable maxcdn and any minifying plugins to first ensure that the menu will work as intended.
If so, then try to use maxcdn without minifying.
Often plugins or scripts that minify js brake the js, especially when those scripts are already minify’ed.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    HI Mike
Thanks for your fast response (and I apologise for my slow replies!!)
I’m not sure I know how to do what you suggest but I will give it a go and let you know if it fixes things…

    Many thanks

    Hi,
Thanks, what I mean is that it looks as you are using a content delivery network called “MaxCDN” please try turning it off temporary and clear any cache / minify plugins and also turn them off.
I believe this will solve, if so we can address the next step afterward.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi,

That’s great thanks. OK, I have ‘switched off’ MaxCDN in the WP Super Cache plugin, disabled these other plugins that also seem to be linked:
    EWWW Image Optimizer
    Fast Velocity Minify

    I then flushed the cache.

The site took a long time to load for the first time after making the changes, but the burger menu is working and subsequent page refreshes are not slow.

    Hi,
Thanks for trying that, your site is not getting those errors now, and as you pointed to, your menu now works.
You do have one 404 for a missing image in the latest news widget in the footer, please see details Private Content area.
But this has nothing to do with the issue we are working on.

I suggest trying to reactivate your plugins one at a time to see if they caused the error, and if they don’t, we can try activating the MaxCDN last.

To test have one tab open to your homepage with the developer tools open. To open the developer tools, right click on your page and choose “inspector” or “developer tools”, depending on your browser. I recommend Chrome which will open the tools with F12 on Windows.
Please see screenshot in Private Content area.

Then in another tab, activate one plugin, then go back to your first tab and do a “hard reload”, that is in Chrome with the tools open, right click on the refresh button and you will get a drop down with three choices, choose “hard reload”, and see if you get any errors.
Keep doing this until you find the issue.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi,
Thanks for your detailed and helpful reply. Also for spotting the 404 error in the footer. I’ll work through it systematically to find out what works. If anything breaks the burger menu I will either do without the functionality or find an alternative way to do it.
I’m happy to let you know the outcome but you’ve solved the problem and given me an approach to checking for conflicts so I would be happy if you want to close this thread also.

I really appreciate your execellent support – thanks again

    Best regards,

    Thanks Mike,
    Here’s the summary:
    1) I reactivated Fastvelocity Minify but with Disable minification on JS files selected. This option changes the behaviour so that JS files will be merged but not minified. The burger menu still worked.

    2) I then reactivated EWWW Image Optimizer without any CDN ilnks. Again, the burger menu continued working.

    3) Final step was to enable the MaxCDN service through the WP Super Cache plugin. This stopped the burger menu working and created a series of errors in the console. To reinstate the burger menu I had to deactivate the plugins again.

    Hi,
Thank you for the update. I imagine you will be looking for a new caching plugin, perhaps WP Fastest Cache

I think so. I wasn’t sure which to try so I’ll go with your suggestion and see…
