    The burger menu for mobile devices for my website suddenly disappeared. You can see the burger icon but when you click it there are no menu items. The burger icon used to be white as well, and now it’s gray.

    Actually, on investigating this further on a laptop with a reduced browser window, the menu items are there but there is a ton of white space above and below them. You can use the scroll bar within the burger menu window to access them, but the result on a phone or tablet where the scroll function is not evident makes it appear that they are missing.

    How did they get so much padding and how can this be fixed?

    You have following custom CSS code in style.css file of your child theme

    #header_main_alternate, #header {
    -webkit-transform: translateZ(0);
}

    Please remove it and flush cache
