    I’m using a child theme that I originally followed from advice in the thread below:

    I want the Blog Post Grid Layout to display the title, then below the Author (original author of the post) and date. Right now for some reason, the author is being populated as the same author for all the posts in a given section…it seems like it may be taking the author who made the most recent post. But each article is being written by a different student, so it needs to display the actual author of that individual post (taken from the Author section in the back end when you look at Posts).

    The error is especially noticable in the “Latest” section on the homepage of my site.

    The shortcodes file altering this element is below, and titled postslider.php:

    <?php
    /**
    * Post Slider
    *
    * Display a Slideshow of Post Entries
    * Element is in Beta and by default disabled. Todo: test with layerslider elements. currently throws error bc layerslider is only included if layerslider element is detected which is not the case with the post/page element
    */
    if ( ! defined( ‘ABSPATH’ ) ) { exit; } // Exit if accessed directly

    if ( !class_exists( ‘avia_sc_postslider’ ))
    {

    Hey ChristineGerman,

    Please replace this line of your code:

    $meta .= "<div class='slide-meta-author'>" . get_the_author() . "</div>
    <div class='slide-meta-del'>/</div>";

    with

    $post_author_id = get_post_field( 'post_author',  $the_id );
    $author_name = get_the_author_meta( 'user_nicename' , $post_author_id );
    $meta .= "<div class='slide-meta-author'>$author_name</div>
    <div class='slide-meta-del'>/</div>";

    Best regards,
    Peter

    Thanks, it’s now populating with the correct users, but it is using their username. I need it to populate with the “name” field of each user. This way they student’s full name (first and last name) will display as the author of a given post.

    Thank you

    #1011073

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. Please look for this line:

    $author_name = get_the_author_meta( 'user_nicename' , $post_author_id );

    Replace the value “user_nicename” with “display_name”. Make sure that the display name settings is set to the full name.

    Or replace the previous code with this:

    $post_author_id = get_post_field( 'post_author',  $the_id );
    $author_fname = get_the_author_meta( 'first_name' , $post_author_id );
    $author_lname = get_the_author_meta( 'last_name' , $post_author_id );
    $author_name = $author_fname . ' ' . $author_lname;
    $meta .= "
    <div class='slide-meta-author'>{$author_name}</div>
    <div class='slide-meta-del'>/</div>
    ";

    Best regards,

    Hi Ismael,
    What if I want to add a custom post tag to the Blog Post Grid Layout? I figured out how to do this on the Blog Posts themselves, but I need to be able to display the same meta information in a variety of ways/places.

    1) Within Features and Reviews, Tips, and Deals on home page – https://greatfamilyvacations.com/home/ – this is the ALB blog posts in Grid Layout.
    2) Within Trips by Activity – https://greatfamilyvacations.com/home/ (scroll down) – this is the ALB masonry gallery – perfect grid masonry blog posts

    In both places, I need to display the following:

    $outlet = get_post_meta($the_id, 'outlet', true);
    						if(!empty($outlet))
    						{
    						echo '<span class="outlets minor-meta">'. __( 'Outlet:','avia_framework' ) . ' ';
    						echo $outlet;
    						echo '</span><span class="text-sep text-sep-cat">/</span>';
    						}

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

    @connect4consulting

    1.) You will have to modify the enfold\config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\postslider\postslider.php file and place the custom post tag around line 889 or within this container.

    $meta  = "
    <div class='slide-meta'>";

    2.) To add it in the masonry entries, edit the enfold\config-templatebuilder\avia-shortcodes\av-helper-masonry.php and look for the masonry content container around line 516:

    $items .=	"
    <div class='av-masonry-entry-content entry-content' {$markup}>{$content}</div>
    ";

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Ismael,
    Thanks so much for your help!
    Can you expand on this a bit for adding my Advanced Custom Field into the Masonry entries?

    I see the line:
    $items .= "<div class='av-masonry-entry-content entry-content' {$markup}>{$content}</div>";

    Where do I put my Advanced Custom Field code:

    $outlet = get_post_meta($the_id, 'outlet', true);
    						if(!empty($outlet))
    						{
    						echo '<span class="outlets minor-meta">'. __( 'Outlet:','avia_framework' ) . ' ';
    						echo $outlet;
    						echo '</span><span class="text-sep text-sep-cat">/</span>';
    						}

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

    Thank you for the update.

    If you want the custom field before the content, please edit the line that we mentioned above..

    $items .= "
    <div class='av-masonry-entry-content entry-content' {$markup}>{$content}</div>
    ";

    .. and replace it with:

    $outlet = get_post_meta($the_id, 'outlet', true);
    						if(!empty($outlet))
    						{
    						$outlet_output = '<span class="outlets minor-meta">'. __( 'Outlet:','avia_framework' ) . ' ';
    						$outlet_output .= $outlet;
    						$outlet_output .= '</span><span class="text-sep text-sep-cat">/</span>';
    						}

    $items .= "
    <div class='av-masonry-entry-content entry-content' {$markup}>{$outlet_output . $content}</div>
    ";

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    #1283686

    Ismael,
    Thanks – as always for your help! Will this put my custom field between the title and the date, below each photo in the masonry gallery? That’s where I want it. See the screenshot in private content.
    Thanks,
    Gabe

    #1283874

    Hi,

    If you would like the custom field to display between the title and the date, please use this code instead.

    $outlet = get_post_meta($the_id, 'outlet', true);
    						if(!empty($outlet))
    						{
    						$outlet_output = '<span class="outlets minor-meta">'. __( 'Outlet:','avia_framework' ) . ' ';
    						$outlet_output .= $outlet;
    						$outlet_output .= '</span><span class="text-sep text-sep-cat">/</span>';
    						}

    $items .= "<div class='av-masonry-entry-content entry-content' {$markup}>{$outlet_output . $content}</div>";
    $items .= "<div class='av-masonry-entry-outlet'>{$outlet_output}</div>";

    Thank you for your patience.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    #1284179

    Thanks Ismael. If I also want to add this to archives, search results, and recent articles, how do I do that?

    #1285378

    Hi,

    Why is the name of the custom field “publication_name”? Did you change it?

    Where exactly did you place the code or in which template? If you want to place it in the archive and in the search results page, you have to modify the includes > loop-index.php file and the loop-search.php file located in the same includes directory. If you want to place it after the post meta info, you could also use this filter in the functions.php file.

    add_filter("avf_loop_index_blog_meta", function($output)  {
    	$outlet = get_post_meta($the_id, 'outlet', true);
    	if(!empty($outlet))
    	{
    		$outlet_output = '<span class="outlets minor-meta">'. __( 'Outlet:','avia_framework' ) . ' ';
    		$outlet_output .= $outlet;
    		$outlet_output .= '</span><span class="text-sep text-sep-cat">/</span>';
    	}
    	return $outlet_output . $output;
    }, 10, 1);

    Best regards,
    Ismael
