Blog Layout: Is it possible?

I would like to customize my layout to be simlar to this one: http://adamelmakias.com/blog/
– You go to the blog page and it has a sidebar and list on posts (I already know how to set that up)

Clicking on a post would take you to the corresponding page with no sidebar and the text and photos take up the a lot larger of an area.

Right now, If I take the sidebar off a post, the text and content do not stretch across where the sidebar was, Instead, it looks like it centers the content and rids of the sidebar. I would like to optimize the space where the sidebar was to have a larger width to the blog. Just like this: http://adamelmakias.com/live/photos-from-soundwave-festival-2014/

My website is http://www.jaredburnettphoto.com . I want the content to spread across where the slider was so I can spread photos across a larger width.
