I have been downloading from Themeforest updated Enfold theme then use Transmit to manually upload.

Today I noticed in the Enfold theme options that I can update Enfold theme thru the WordPress dashboard by adding my Themeforest User Name and API Key.

Was wondering which is the better practice? It seems simpler to do it thru WordPress but wanted to know if there is an advantage to manual updating?

    Thanks,
    GB

    Hi gb!

as long as you have a backup, both options can work great!
For automated update only issue can be, that your hosting might expire from the size and fail on the backup, but that is happening not a lot!
Please do let usk now if yyu have any other question to add to

What is a good back up solution suggestion?

Right now, I manually update by dropping the new Enfold folder over the old one.

Before I do this, I copy the older Enfold folder to my desktop just incase there is an issue, I can just re – upload it.

Looking to evolve my protocols :-)

    Thanks,

    GB and Basilis,

Were you able to update through the WordPress dashboard or by clicking “Check Manually” in the parent Enfold Theme Update tab to Enfold 3.4.4?
In the past it has worked for me.
But, now it says: “No Updates available. You are running the latest version! (3.4.3)”.

    Thanks.

    Hi Classy,

Well I tried to manually update to 3.4.4 but strangely after the upload was complete, I went to check the version number and it was still reading 3.4.3

Figured I will give it an other go tomorrow or just wait till the next update as there does not seem to be much of a difference from 3.4.3 and 3.4.4

    Hi!

Please try this plugin to clear WordPress transients: https://wordpress.org/plugins/artiss-transient-cleaner/. If that doesn’t work then please try to update manually: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/

    Regards,
    Yigit

    Thanks GB and Yigit,

Having run the transient cleaner plugin (removing expired and all transients in that order) and clicking “Check Manually” in the parent Enfold Theme Update tab a few minutes ago, it still says: “No Updates available. You are running the latest version! (3.4.3)”.

And, with GB doing an upload update, the Envato server must still have the old old Enfold 3.4.3.

Seems like all approaches are failing.

I am sure Enfold will fix this soon.

So I just tried for a second time to manually update my Enfold theme from 3.4.3 to 3.4.4

I downloaded again the files from Themeforest and uploaded via FTP (Transmit).

When I check what version of the theme I have under Appearance / themes, it still reads as Enfold 3.4.3

Not sure why its not updating to 3.4.4?

    #542730

    Hey!

@gb have you tried the transients issue, Yigit suggests?

    Hi,

No I had not, thinking that a manual update would over ride these issues?

    #542880

    Hi,

It will update the theme doing it manually yes, but the transient will most likely still be there so you might have the same problem on the next update.

    Thanks,
    Rikard

    Hi All,

So I downloaded the App Transient Cleaner and ran it as recommended and re installed the Enfold theme manually, however when I check it still reads 3.4.3

    Hey!

It seems that style.css file was not updated so even though you are using 3.4.4, it says 3.4.3. Sorry for the confusion :)

    Hi,

Is anyone able to run the Transients Cleaner plugin and then “Check Manually” in the parent Enfold Theme Update tab, then update and have the Enfold Theme say?:
“No Updates available. You are running the latest version! (3.4.4)”

After doing so, all I see is:
No Updates available. You are running the latest version! (3.4.3)”

If not, can Enfold please fix this? Thanks!

    Hey!

Have you seen my reply here – https://kriesi.at/support/topic/better-practice-for-updating-theme/#post-543649? :)

    Hi Yigit,

That link does not seem to be working for me?

Is there a way to get the style sheet to update so theme reads 3.4.4?

Just thinking about avoiding confusion with future updates.

    Thanks,

    G.

    #544071

    Hi,

There should not be a need for that, if it says you are using 3.4.3 then you are using the latest version. You can open style.css and edit it to 3.4.4 if you would like that.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #544780

Thanks for getting back to me. I am not quite sure I understand as this is the first time the theme update does not match. How can I confirm that I am in fact running 3.4.4 even though it says 3.4.3?

If the style sheet is not updating for some reason, how will I know each time I run an update if the theme has actually updated?

    #544796

    Hi Yigit and Rikard,

The Enfold ThemeForest website still shows a 3.4.4 version on the changelog.
Can you please update the Enfold ThemeForest website to say what you just explained, “if it says you are using 3.4.3 then you are using the latest version.”
That way users know the changelog is incorrect?
Or, maybe a version 3.4.5 that corrects this issue?
    Thanks!

    #545482

    Hi!

Style.css file will be updated in upcoming versions. Version 3.4.4 was an urgent update fixing PHP related issue. If you are not seeing any issues, you must be using the latest version of Enfold which is 3.4.4 but labeled as 3.4.3 :)

    Best regards,
    Yigit

Ahh, thanks for the clarification, all this time , it was thought to be an install issue. Good to know there is nothing to be done but wait for the next update :-)
