How are you creating the login form on the sidebar with the Title of “Log In” ( I assume that part is done with the bbpress login widget) – which then changes to the profile box with the avatar image with the links account overview, profile, etc – once the person logs in?

This is a plugin with a bit of customization. I believe its this one: http://wordpress.org/plugins/sidebar-login/ but we don’t have access to any of the customization that Kriesi may or may not have done.
