Hello guys.
I have run a speed test and it returned 23 :/
So I gather this is pretty bad.I saw other threads on this but I don’t know coding and worried that messing with the code will break my site.
Can you kindly have a look and let me know a few things I can do or you can help me with to make my site faster?
July 19, 2017 at 12:10 am #823544Hello. I can assure you that it’s not an Enfold issue. If you look at this performance test, you’ll see that you have a bunch of configurations to do, outside of the theme.
Here are just a few action Items:
-
Caching (Plugin, Hosting and CDN)
Minification w/ Autoptimize
Image Optimization (Dimensions prior to upload)
Image Optimization (Image Compression upon upload w/ via a plugin)If you want to hire a professional to assist, feel free to click on my profile avatar (accurIT Presence) and reach out to me. Otherwise, I’ll try to help you as much as I can on here.
July 19, 2017 at 12:19 am #823546Hmmm, I see. I do optimise images before upload, but probably not enough.
I can’t afford to pay at the moment, this is why I’m trying to build a website myself he he. 👀
I would appreciate any suggestions if you have some.
Many thanks!!!
July 19, 2017 at 12:29 am #823547I understand. Here is some homework for you. Other than the below, just make sure you’re not uploading images that are huge in dimension and/or filesize.
-
Autoptimize Plugin: (Install w/ defaults and then tweak if needed
Caching (Web Host): Talk to them about enabling/configuring
Caching (Plugin): After talking to your web host, install what they recommend or if they don’t recommend anything, use WP Super Cache w/ the default settings and then tweak if needed)
Image Compression (Plugin): Uninstall any other image optimization plugins, install this one and then BULK COMPRESS all of your images that you’ve uploaded.
Disable Unneeded Functionality: Install this plugin and use it to turn OFF everything you don’t need. NOTE: If you have WooCommerce, be very careful what you turn OFF.
Caching (CDN): Talk to your web host about how they integrate/if they integrate with CDNs. Specifically, talk to them about signing up for the FREE tier or Cloudflare.July 19, 2017 at 1:00 am #823559thank you – i have raised the issue with the host and will see what they say.
I don’t think i have huge images, they are about 140kb max (1200px wide).i do have a few huge pdfs on there, (about 2-4 mb) – maybe there is a better way to provide those pdfs without uploading them onto webpage? my clients need to download them – but maybe i could provide a link to google drive instead? what do you reckon?
July 19, 2017 at 1:14 am #823563Absolutely offload those PDFs to your Google Drive and look at this plugin to link to them. Since PDFs are hard (if not impossible to SEO), having them offloaded from your site is the way to go.
July 19, 2017 at 2:41 pm #823977I installed WP super cache and BWP minify
Deleted all the pdfs, installed smushittested with google again… mobile 28 desktop 32 – still crap result.
most images that are to be optimised are instagram thumbnails from Enfold instagram widget.
I can try deleting it, although i do like to ideally display instagram and facebook links.
my hosting providers are ignoring me.
sigh
July 19, 2017 at 3:08 pm #824003Hi annajou,
You might look into this
https://ymatuhin.ru/front-end/html5-link-prefetch/
But this can get very technical. And switching to php7 would be great, but again you need to contact your host for that.@accurIT Presence thanks! Great cooperation!

I proposed all the host-related suggestions that you recommended to my host, but didn’t hear back from them yet.
@victoria
thanks for the links, i’m not sure I will be able to look into it myself but i will enquire about php7.July 20, 2017 at 5:46 am #824374Hi annajou,
Thanks for the feedback, let us know when your hosting provider gets back to you and what they have to say.
Best regards,
RikardJuly 27, 2017 at 11:09 am #830580Hi guys
So it turned out my host was the main issue so i changed to a different host.
I changed to php 7 as victoria recommended
also i installed a bunch of plugins
my score went up to 55 in the end, still not ideal, but way better!
