Hello
I have the same problem as Reply #897509 in a previous ticket from another user.
I have a color section with a YouTube video for the background.
On the first time you load the page after awhile, the video does not play.
Only when refreshing the page, the video starts. We have the same issue on our site
(The site is using the Autoptimize plug in to fix CSS and JS loading)
We are using Chrome and Firefox on both Mac and PC
Sometimes the Home page video runs on first load, other times it does not
Then the same issue also happens at times on another page with a different video as background element.
I’ve cleared cache & cookies multiple time but it still seems to break randomly
Can you help please?
Thanks

Thank you for using Enfold.
This is not an error with the theme but rather due to Google’s new autoplay policy.
// https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes
Chrome’s autoplay policies are simple:
Muted autoplay is always allowed.
Autoplay with sound is allowed if:
User has interacted with the domain (click, tap, etc.).
On desktop, the user’s Media Engagement Index threshold has been crossed, meaning the user has previously play video with sound.
On mobile, the user has added the site to his or her home screen.
Top frames can delegate autoplay permission to their iframes to allow autoplay with sound. The video background auto played on my initial visit to the site. As a forum moderator who inspect sites with videos on a daily basis, I am one of those users whose Media Engagement Index has been crossed.
Best regards,

THanks for your reply.
The video is muted. But it does not play on first load.
This happens regularly for me and I would have thought that I’m one of the Users who fits into the criteria you’ve listed. ie interacted with the site, clicked a link etc
So I’m not sure why it’s not playing for me first load.
Do you have any workarounds for this, for background videos?
If I go to https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/ that video plays every single time on Chrome, even after clear cache on. What are they doing to make that happen?
Thanks
CameronAugust 7, 2018 at 4:01 am #994195Hi,
You can replace it with a layer slider. Create a layer, set the type to “Video” and then toggle the “Use this video as slide background” option.

And we can still add the text over the top of the video background, correct?
And the video will autoplay?
August 7, 2018 at 1:58 pm #994437Hi CBurgo,
Yes, correct. Let us know how that worked for you.

One quick question to clarify…..
Our video on the home page has NO Audio. We completely stripped the audio out before uploading to YouTube.
So, I would have thought that this would comply with Google’s auto play policy that Ismael quoted.
ie – Chrome’s autoplay policies are simple:
Muted autoplay is always allowed.
But we seem to be getting blocked on the first play anyway?
Is there a way to ensure Chrome recognises that the video has no audio?
Thanks in advance
CameronAugust 8, 2018 at 4:22 am #994679Hi,
Thanks for the update.

You can explicitly add the muted or the autoplay attribute to the iframe or video tag. The theme automatically does that so you don’t have to do anything.
This is what I get on my initial visit to the site.

The background video loads automatically. However, the “autoplay” parameter of the youtube url is set to 0. Did you add that?

I understand you see the video,
but in our office we regularly get NO VIDEO on first load. We dont know why.
I’m not aware of adding any autoplay parameters
We simply uploaded the video to youtube and set it to autoplay as a background video on the site.
Should the autoplay parameter be set to something else?
