There is a similar post that covers my specific issue. https://kriesi.at/support/topic/shortcode-issue-2/

I understand the limitation, but am curious if anyone has been able to restrict content based on user role when building a page with the Avia Layout Builer. Because all the plugins use an opening shortcode and a closing shortcode. i.e. [restrict] content to restrict in someway. Like only show if logged in… [/restrict].

As an example. I have a Content Slider element. I want to put the restrict shortcode around the Content Slider, and be able to do it within Layout Builder and not have to switch to the default editor.

Currently the open and close shortcode tags have to be within one element. The closing tag isn’t rendered when added standalone.

I love EVERYTHING about Enfold and Avia Layout Builder, but this is the one thing that is holding me up.

    Hey Bill!

I don’t think you will be able to use the avia layout builder like that. You can switch to the default editor and surround shortcodes inside each other.

You can also enable the debug view for the layout builder, http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/enable-advanced-layout-builder-debug/, and insert shortcodes that way.

    Cheers!

    Thanks Elliott!

That’s what I thought. I’ve used both the debug view and also switched back to the default editor. The unfortunate part about doing either is that if I edit one of the elements that are within my manually added shortcodes and then save/publish the page, it over rides and removes my inserted piece, so I have to just be cautious of that and make sure I add it again.
