When I tried to update the Enfold theme from WP-admin, I get this error:

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

I have followed the advice in the only other ticket I could find about this problem: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-theme-problem-with-fopen-when-updating-the-theme. But adding the php-code to the .htaccess file unfortunately did not resolve the problem.

    UPDATE:

I have been in touch with Envato. They say the problem lies with the hosting provider (SoHosted) not being able to process long file paths for download files. See email below. In fact, they may be right. I am using Enfold for websites hosted by other parties (Greenhost and Strato) and on those sites, there is no problem with updating the theme. I will contact SoHosted again, hopefully they will be able to resolve this.

    UPDATE 2:
The issue appears to be related to the file system used. The problem only occurs with Windows servers (NTFS). Greenhost and Strato are on a different platform, apparently.

    Hi Rene

    Thanks for your email.

This is a strange issue and one I have not seen. We won’t be able to modify the API and so this looks like a limitation of your hosting provider (I accept that they might see this differently but we sell over 8 million items across our marketplace all delivered the same way).

Although I note they do admit:

He reported that many other customers of SoHOsted experienced the same problem.

The alternative would be to try and apply the update manually with the help of the author or unfortunately to find another hosting provider.

Sorry there isn’t nothing else I can do to assist.

    All the best
    Scott

    Hey René!

    Thank you for using Enfold.

Make sure that the folder or directory above is writable or have the correct file permission. Ask your server administrator regarding that. I’m not sure if this is going to help but please try to add this in the php.ini file:

    ini_set('upload_tmp_dir','c:/domains/_SERVICES/PHP-sessiondata/uploaddata/iccfo.ngo/www');

If possible, please give us a link to the php info page so that we can check the php settings.

    Regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

Thanks for getting back! I have set the ‘themes’ folder to 755, but that did not resolve the problem. I have now asked the helpdesk of SoHosted to assist with changing the php.ini file, as I can not access it through FTP. I will let you know once that is done.

    Kind regards,

    René

    Hi!

alright. We will wait for your reply. Hope your host can help you!

    Hi Andy,

The support desk at our hosting provider SoHosted has investigated the issue. The error message that appears when updating Enfold is caused by the path length of the update file. It is over 250 characters long, which prohibits the automatic update being processed. He reported that many other customers of SoHOsted experienced the same problem. Would you be able to report this and see if it could be shortened?

    Many thanks,

    René

    Hi René!

File names are given by ThemeForest and we are using their API to generate API key for auto-updates. Could you please contact their support team here and suggest those changes to be made – https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us?

    Best regards,
    Yigit
