Auto-update current year in footer copyright notice

Hi,

Even though it’s a yearly maintenance job, when you have lots of WP sites with different themes, it’s a pain to log in to all of them to update the copyright year.

I see you can use shortcodes in the footer field ( like [nolink] ). Is there a way to have a shortcode for the current year automatically inserted in the copyright? I haven’t seen this very simple, yet very useful feature in any theme. Something like this would be awesome:

© 2008 – [currentyear] Biz Name

Is this possible right now? Or if I can use some simple code for now, I’d appreciate any suggestions.
