I have implemented the media element “audio player” on a page and set the playlist setting to “start on pageload”.
However the behavior of the player varies depending on the device on which I do actually load the page:
– Windows desktop, Firefox: audio starts automatically
– Windows tablet, Edge: audio starts automatically
– Fire HD tablet: audio starts automatically
– Apple tablet: no automatic start, audio needs to be started manually
– Samsung Android Smartphone: no automatic start, audio needs to be started manually
I have also tried to implement the audio player as a text element:
[audio mp3="https://www.my-website.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/music.mp3" autoplay=1][/audio]
Same behavior on the various devices
How can I get the player starting automatically on any device/browser?January 27, 2019 at 2:58 pm #1059353Hey SpunkaneHill,
Thank you for writing to us.
Would you mind providing a precise link to the page, showing the elements in question? We need to be able to inspect them in order to help :)

ThorstenJanuary 31, 2019 at 5:32 pm #1061071Hi,
As much as I know some mobile devices do not allow an autostart to avoid unintended download of large amount of data.
Maybe there is a setting on the device to allow this – but if not there is nothing we can do to overrule this.

GünterJanuary 31, 2019 at 6:06 pm #1061085Hi Günter,
I think it’s not a matter of the device. I have 3 browsers on my smartphone for testing puposes: autostart works with Firefox and Chrome, but it doesn’t with the Samsung Browser. And autostart does not work on the 2 apple devices which I tested, both with Safari browser. I tested Edge on 3 devices and autostart works on all of them. It looks like it’s related to the type of browser. Is there anything you can do from your side to enforce autostart on all browsers?

ThorstenFebruary 9, 2019 at 8:48 pm #1064985Hi,
Sorry for the late reply, but Apple announced a while back that they disabled auto play of videos on Safari, this is a stand that they are taking, and Chrome is expected to follow soon. I can’t find anything on the Samsung Browser, so it’s hard to say.
Unfortunately there is not anything we can do to force auto play on browsers blocking this.Best regards,
MikeMarch 20, 2019 at 11:25 am #1080768Hi,
I have quite the same problem… but I need your confirmation…
Actually on my home page there is a song that shoud start on loadpage.
It works with Explorer but not with Chrome.
BUT… if I use Chrome :
when we arrive first on the home page the song doesn’t start but if I go on another page like “About” or “Contact” and then I come back (via the menu) to the home page, the song starts… So Chrome is able to start the song automatically but not if we go first on the home page..
Do you understand what I mean ?
Shouldn’t we correct this problem ?Thank you for your reply.
March 21, 2019 at 2:07 am #1081118Hi,
When I check your page in Chrome on a PC the song auto plays, I notice that if I click stop and reload the page it doesn’t play automatically, but this is probably a user selection that the player sets with a cookie.
If I clear my cache and reload the page it plays again.
I’m using Chrome v72.0.3626.121Best regards,
