Yes, those plugins offer you a flag switcher, that you can add to your menu.

BasilisI tried Polylang but it instantly does funny things with my page. Either everything just disappears or all menus before customization appear again.

THat is because there are no translations added or details into the pages, so they work with the different language selection.
For more informations you will have either to contact the author of the plugin or hire a freelancer to assist you.Thanks a lot
