I wonder if it is easy to short code css to animate a menu like http://www.stevegoslingphotography.co.uk/ has?
Or is that something we need to do some heavy lifting for?

I am not sure if Ubermenu features such dropdown but it is compatible with Enfold – http://sevenspark.com/docs/ubermenu-3/theme-integration/enfold. You can try contacting plugin author and ask them your question :)
