I keep getting SEO errors from my tools bc alt images are not appearing in my html when I use banner images in the background for my color sections. Is there any workaround for this? I’m trying to be as optimized as possible.

I found an older thread, but it said that functionality would be built in the next gen. That was in 2013, so I’m guessing it’s already been built in?

    Thanks!

    Hey vidaelf,

Did you edit the image meta tags in the media library? When an image is set as a background of an element there is no way to set the alt tag since it’s done via CSS.

I did. All images have alt tags via the media library, but my MOZ SEO crawls are telling me all images that are used as background have no alt tag. When I look at the source code of the live page, it’s only pulling the url of the image as the source. I’m guessing there’s no way around this? Is there a way to have the image in a section, with text over it that’s not part of the background, but still have the text on top? Probably not, as far as I can tell…

    Hi,

There is no way of setting an alt tag when the image is set as a background image using CSS as far as I know, so being concerned with this being an SEO issue might be a bit too technical to be honest, I have a hard time imagining that you will be punished by search engines by not including alt tag for background images to be honest. Since there is no way of doing it then everyone else would be punished as well :-)

    Best regards,
    Rikard
