I broke my site. Read through everything I could find here, tried what I could. See the site at the link below – social and other icons missing:
History: I tried to update via FTP. Everything broke leaving a white screen and an alert – line 394 of some file – sorry I didn’t grab the alert. I was in a panic.
I then deleted entirely the Enfold folder from wp-contents, opened the WordPress dashboard, and installed the latest copy of Enfold (2.7) through the upload process. Upon activation, the site came back, but without the standard icons. This is true in multiple browsers. I would reinstall via FTP but am afraid of breaking the site again. Because I already have the latest theme I can’t update that way.
Tried deactivating and reactivating. Same result.
Please help.
April 24, 2014 at 5:05 pm #255600Hi tiredagent!
Please try updating the theme via FTP once again – http://vimeo.com/67209750
Also please make sure that you are using WordPress 3.9Best regards,
YigitApril 24, 2014 at 7:31 pm #255731Yigit,
I did as suggested. WordPress was already at 3.9 but I reinstalled anyway.
I replaced the Enfold theme manually (FTP).
This broke the site again but I captured the error message:Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting ‘]’ in /home/c1218inc/public_html/thenuagegroup.com/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/contentslider.php on line 394
I deleted the Enfold theme folder from wp-content, switched to another theme temporarily, uploaded the theme through the WP interface, activated it and now things work again. But I have more sites to update and would like to know, if it can be known, why the parse error. I was negligent in updating Enfold, would prefer the API Key method, but that was not an option in 1.9
Thank you for you help. If you know why the error I’d love to hear about it.
April 25, 2014 at 10:21 am #256008Hi!
Glad it is working now.
When you search the same topic over the forum, you’ll see that updating the theme files or commenting then uncommenting the error line mentioned above fixed the issue for all of them. We’re not entirely certain why it’s happening but luckily it can be fix.
Cheers!
IsmaelMay 16, 2014 at 4:43 pm #265866I just hosed my site trying to comment and then uncomment /home/c1218inc/public_html/thenuagegroup.com/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/contentslider.php on line 394
All I get now is white, whether in public or WP view. I’ve reloaded enfold via FTP and I have the same results. Obviously I did something wrong, won’t try it again, but do you have suggestions for a restoration?
May 16, 2014 at 5:35 pm #265884Restored my site but will have to better understand the process for the comment and uncomment approach. Any links will be appreciated.
May 17, 2014 at 5:15 pm #266144Hey!
You can comment out lines by simply adding // in front of the lines. You should comment out the lines between 389-408
Cheers!
YigitMay 18, 2014 at 3:20 pm #266311thank you. That did it for me. You guys are the best.
