After Child theme install, parent settings not working

I installed child theme to get rid of the layer slider in functions. Before activating child theme, I exported the theme settings file and saved. Then, when installing the child, clicked option to use parent theme. That didn’t work, in that none of the styles got loaded. So I imported the theme settings txt file. Now, in the general style settings, all parent theme styles are showing up in the preview, but the website is showing the enfold default. Have cleared cache twice.
