I have purchased an event plugin for the site but it appears that only the admin can have access to update/add. Is it possible to give Author/Editor roles access to update the events plugin? thanks

I think it’s better if you ask the plugin author, ask them them what is the user capability required to access the events. It’s possible to modify the user roles with a plugin:
