Adding a widget area to the header

Hi I have just followed the instructions on the documentation page regarding adding adding the widget area the header. The button has been added but I now need some help with three things;

1. Styling the button.
2. Re-positioning the button.
3. Stopping the button from behaving erratically when the header shrinks.
