    Topic: URGENT! White page in frontend and backend after Update

    URGENT! After the update to the new version I have only one white page in the frontend and the backend. I can not open anything anymore. I am shown the following:

    Please to quickly fix the error, the website is currently down.

    I have now switched back to the old version because I can not wait more than an hour. My website needs to be online. Please solve the problem anyway, so that I can carry out a new update. The folder is now called “enfoldnew” where the above problem is.

    Hi Mike,

    Yes, I went back and figured this out on my own so that is why you are saying the latest version of Enfold now on the site.

    The problem was actually being caused by some php files in the newer theme files.

    The files were events_upcoming.php and events_countdown.php which are all related to The Events Calendar plugin.

    In order to fix this, I had to install that plugin so that those files would no longer cause a 500 error and I was able to access the WP admin and my landing pages were no longer broken.

    I am having some problems updating Enfold 4.4 (this is happening on more than one domain).

    Firstly when trying to run an update through the WordPress admin panel I get this error message – “Download failed. A valid URL was not provided.”

    On one of the domains, I tried to upload Enfold via the ftp and now the site is down with this error message – “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare av_countdown_events_fallback() (previously declared in /storage/content/43/188543/jlsymposium.se/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php:16) in /storage/content/43/188543/jlsymposium.se/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php on line 12”.

    I’m not sure I need that code anymore since I think I edited the magazine.php which I have in my child theme to show the excerpts instead with this code that you gave me:

    I had the same issue updating to 4.4.1 from a few versions back. First tried to update via the WPress backend but got error that there was a missing URL. Then updated with FTP and got the fatal error similar to what is noted above.

    I removed the “config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_upcoming.php” and “config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php” that were not inside other folders, and now it works.

    I don’t understand why if I uploaded the entire Themes/Enfold folder that it didn’t replace the entire folder, but instead left old files in there. Now I wonder if there are other old files in there that are no longer needed. Just curious, as everything is working.

    I’m updating from an older version of Enfold (3.5.4) to the current version. I’ve upgraded the site’s PHP, and the new theme works in my WP Engine staging area. When I push the staged site live, I get 500 errors that shut down the front and backend of my website, and need to have it restored to its prior version by my hosting company.

    Here’s my first error, which based on another thread, recommended removing the file.

    After removing the events_countdown.php, I received a very similar error.

    I deleted the parent theme entirely, and installed a new version directly. I then received the first error after pushing the staged site to live. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Please let me know if you need any other info.

    Are there other files that were supposed to be deleted? I updated my theme today and received the error above. Based on this thread, I deleted events_countdown.php.

    Now I’m getting a similar error for events_upcoming.php.

    Hi, 2 of my sites have broken today, both using the enfold theme on wpengine.

    I have had discussions with the support team but all points to issues in the theme.

    Site 1 I updated the theme and the whole site went down

    Site 2 I updated the theme on the staging site and when pushed to live, it fell.

    Here is what wpengine reported back:

    We have Enfold on one of our sites and when we activate Gravity Forms, it breaks the site editor’s customizer. When going to the page, we get a spinning circle in the editor box that does not stop.

    I have implemented the update manually, replacing the Enfold folder in the wp-content/themes directory but now have a 500ERROR and the site is unreachable. I cannot even log into wp admin.

    You need to delete this file
    themes/2hconsult/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php

    It has moved to its own folder and the update process was not able to delete it.

    Since I reverted BACK to Enfold 4.4, the issue is resolved.
    Here’s the sequence of past events that prompted my contact with support:

    —Initially I installed WordPress in brand new hosting. Everything was working just fine.
    —I purchased a copy of Enfold at ThemeForest (4.4.1), installed the theme and activated it.
    —When the screen refreshed, it was completely blank.
    —Looking at the page source code in developer panel, only the opening and closing html tag was present.
    —On the error panel:

    So at this point, I don’t know whether the particular copy of 4.4.1 that I downloaded from ThemeForest was corrupted or what. I will attempt to update to the latest version of Enfold again today, and will only contact you further if that results in a blank screen.

    Hi Nikko,

    Okay, so I’ve been on multiple times with site ground (my server) chat support. I’ve connected to FTP and transferred the file over to the remote site. Nothing happened and there were multiple files that failed and about 300+ successful transfers. In the meantime, it was still the same. no update. Then today I went back on with chat support. They suggested I do a the entire themeforest.zip file and transfer. I did that. My site came up fatal error. and then they transferred me to a advanced ticket. They told me the following info: Your [url]http://staceydiverde.com/wp-admin[/url Dashboard is not working, because the enfold theme is broken:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare av_countdown_events_fallback() (previously declared in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php:16) in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php on line 8

    As you can see the /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php script tries to redeclare the av_countdown_events_fallback() function, which is already declared in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php

    In this case you will have to get in touch with your theme’s vendor/developer so they can provide you with fix for the theme.
    What we, as your hosting provider can do for you in this case is to switch your website’s theme to default one so your website can work, using the WP CLI tool:

    I went further and switched your website’s theme to twentyseventeen so your website and its Dashboard can be accessed now.

    now my site is totally messed up and I called them. they said that you need to provide me with the fixes for the correct theme update. they said there are files missing. Please HELP!!! Is there a number I can call instead of using this box. BTW that video you sent me Is blurring and hard to read. Half it is — is using wordpress.com features and I use wordpress.org for updating. the ftp i was able to figure out but it didnt’ work. anyhow, please advise. thanks

    Hi Yigit,

    Thanks, i followed the instructions for the google maps & got a new error (same as zanardelligolf).
    I also used your extra fix that was supplied for that error, however sadly i now get a fatal error message.

    Again i deleted events_countdown.php & got a events_upcoming.php error, so deleted that file too. Now i have a 500 internal server error, so not sure what to do.

    I tried reverting back to an old enfold, but didn’t help, so i tried to reinstall the new enfold & now have the following errors:
    Warning: require_once(includes/helper-assets.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in on line 581

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘includes/helper-assets.php’ on line 581

    Any help would be appreciated.
