    I ma now considering using enfold for my new wedding dress site. I have a question. What I want to achieve is to bring onto the slider a number of thumbnail images, that when hovered over will show the brand names and then when clicked on will take me to the products page. I have found an example to show what I mean at http://whiteroombridal.co.uk/ is it possible to get this effect using enfold and the advanced slider or what do I need to do to achieve this.

    Many thanks

    Hi ProAnts!

    Please always provide us a link to your website.
    1. You can set it to “Lightbox” when editing your image in option field “Image link?”:

    2. What do you want instead? should thumbnails not be clickable? We need a link to your website to be able to see where these thumbnails are located.

    Cheers!

    Hey Elliot

    Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I can’t use masonry or blog posts because it doesn’t have as many styling options as Portfolio Grid. With portfolio grid I can set columns to display a lot of projects next to each other. I tried using masonry and blog posts for kicks but I’m still having the same issues.

    I would use masonry if….

    • You guys had the same column options as Portfolio grid
    • You could truly customize the size of the portfolio thumbnails and not have to choose between preset sizes.

    Did you manage to find where these small thumbnail sizes are generated (under Blog Posts) please?

    Thanks

    My comments on Pages created using the Advanced Layout Editor keep showing in the header instead of after the content.

    To get comments to work on Pages I placed the following code

    //wordpress function that loads the comments template “comments.php”
    comments_template( ‘/includes/comments.php’);

    on loop-page.php just after

    <?php
    $thumb = get_the_post_thumbnail(get_the_ID(), $avia_config[‘size’]);
    if($thumb) echo “<div class=’page-thumb’>{$thumb}</div>”;
    //display the actual post content
    the_content(__(‘Read more’,’avia_framework’).'<span class=”more-link-arrow”> →</span>’);

    It was working fine on my test pages made with Visual Composer and Advanced Layout Editor whether I had Disqus turned on or not, but tonight it started putting the comment area into the header for pages made with the Advanced Layout Editor. Am really baffled on this and can’t understand why it would move the comments location

    Hey xpoveda!

    Add a magazine element to your page and have it display 1 entry and set the thumbnails to display and check the option for displaying the first entry bigger.

    Next drag the blog posts element beneath the magazine element and set the style to grid.

    Regards,
    Elliott

    I have a youtube embed on the 3rd slide.

    It only shows the youtube video thumbnail with no controls which makes it look like an image, not a video. How can I get a big play button icon to show over it?

    Thanks!

    This reply has been marked as private.

    thanks for your patience! it perfectly worked for my avia.js and shortcodes.js! so this issue is resolved.
    However I have got one suggestion for the gallery that works with thumbnails and a bigger picture above. one of my clients did not choose that gallery style as the thumbs do not grow in size when the screen gets smaller. so if it behaves similar to the mansory thumbnails, being responsive to the screen, it might be more attractive for using it. what do you think?

    Is it possible to put a portfolio grid with small thumbnails into a widget that can be used on many pages? I know you can add one to each individual page but I want to be able to create one version and add it to multiple pages.

    Hey guys!

    First off you all rock, I can’t express enough how thankful it is that I have a team of savvy people behind this theme. It was beyond frustrating to use other themes and have zero support.

    Now for the support lol…

    On my portfolio. There’s a weird pixel padding. (screen here: http://postimg.org/image/irulxr6nl/) Can you please fix this?
    Also, can you adjust the overlay so that the thumbnails do that cool zoom effect instead of having the orange button appear? Also in the image above.

    Thanks!

    Is there a way to add thumbnails in the Ajax Portfolio Slideshow so they appear below the large image, the same way that they do in the Ajax Portfolio Gallery option? (It seems that without the thumbnails below on the slideshow, the way it is functions now, a user might miss that there is more than one image, if they are quickly clicking the controls in the upper right to go to the next portfolio item.)

    A beginner having trouble wrapping my head around images in Enfold…

    I’d like to use the Masonry Gallery but images (thumbnails?) are getting cropped incorrectly – heads are being chopped off. I’ve read on the forums that WordPress automatically crops from the center but I can’t seem to fix that.

    How do I control what part of the uploaded image gets cropped out so all the images in the Masonry Gallery look just as good as in the demo? I tried the plugin: “post thumbnail editor” but it isn’t working with Enfold or I don’t know how to use it properly…

    Also, for my homepage, I’d like to have a full-screen “custom background image.” What size do upload so that my image isn’t blurry?

    Thank You!

    We used a testimonials section on our home page and uploaded images that were 300×300. The theme then tried to fit 180×180 versions of these into the circles, though the circles are actually 80×80; we found that when IE8 rendered the area, it squeezed the photos out of shape, resizing the width but not the height.

    The fix was simple and obvious: we just uploaded 80×80 images and used those instead. I believe the theme creates 80×80 thumbnails with each image upload, so am not quite sure why it tried to use the 180x180s, but that was our workaround and all is now well.

    Hi trevorjohnston!

    Thank you for using Enfold.

    I’m sorry but we don’t provide support for third party plugins so instead of using the Post Types Order plugin, you can add this on functions.php:

    function custom_post_grid_query( $query, $params ) {
    	$query['orderby'] = 'menu_order';
    	$query['order'] = 'ASC';
    	return $query;
    }
    add_filter( 'avia_post_grid_query', 'custom_post_grid_query', 10, 2);

    add_filter('avf_portfolio_cpt_args', 'avf_portfolio_add_custom_fields', 1);
    function avf_portfolio_add_custom_fields($args) {
    	$args['supports'] = array('title','thumbnail','excerpt','editor','comments', 'custom-fields', 'page-attributes');
    	return $args;
    }

    Edit the portfolio items then look for the Page Attributes > Order metabox. Insert a number to manually reposition the items. You can do this on the Quick Edit screen.

    Cheers!

    I’m currently working to get my portfolio pages online, but I’m having problems with the gallery feature. Whatever gallery I select, the size is the same (currently I have the No Scaling option selected). Also the big preview image is stretched, which is ruining the image. When you con the image and the lightbox is opened, then the correct image size is displayed. But I want it correctly displayed in the gallery itself (no stretching).

    At this moment only the fullscreen easy slider feature seems to work (with the easy slider the same issue), I do not want to use this for my portfolio, as I’m missing the thumbnails. I also don’t want to put it in a 2/3 or 3/4 element. I’ve put a sample gallery online for your reference.

    What is the issue here?

    #384163

    In reply to: LIGHTBOX not working

    Sorry, I thought I had included a link in the private portion…Here’s a standard listing page where I use the gallery feature. I prefer the large photo with thumbnails beneath. Another solution to this might be to activate the photo on click rather than hover. Would love to be able to use an arrow for navigation but don’t see that as an optionhttp://davisrealtysitka.com/portfolio-item/new-1410-edgecumbe-dr/.

    #384150

    I’m having the same problem. Thus far I staged the site, removed all customization by going back to parent theme, updated theme, updated WP, turned off all plugins. For me, the hover not only doesn’t appear until the second time, but text below the item jumps down about 50 pixels:

    http://banetti.staging.wpengine.com/maximo-smartstart-for-eam/ (hosted on WPengine) (see link under “deeper dive” at bottom of page.

    When you test this, note that if your cursor goes off the thumbnail image at all, the animation works after that. Reload the page and be careful to do a clean mouse sweep into the image itself; the animation seems to try to load but does not.

    Please go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products and change product image sizes and then regenerate them using this plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
    If that does not help, please post the link to your website and point out the images.

    Hello,
    I have created a set of pages, which are child pages of a few other ones which links are located on the navigation bar.
    What i want to do, is to create some sort of “master detail pages” like a portfolio gallery.Each of those pages will have links within the thumbnails that will lead to their child page.
    Now enfold supports portfolio grid, but i see that i can only select categories/taxonomy , not individual pages.
    What i need to do here?
    Thanks in advance.

    #384034

    Hi TF_Photography!

    That’s actually the correct size it’s supposed to use. Your other images are not large enough (640 x 290) to be resized by the WordPress thumbnails feature so they are displayed in their full dimensions.

    Try adding this to your custom CSS.

    .avia-content-slider .slide-image img {
      max-height: 160px;
    }

    Cheers!

    I still can’t manage to change the size. I want the original size of the featured image (even though I think the cropping is off sometimes) How do I set the original sizes back?
    I’ve tried regenerating thumbnails but it doesn’t work :(

    #383346

    Okay, good morning! First, I’m going to assume that you have created your custom post type via a plugin. If not, you should consider doing so because you will be able to reuse this code on any Enfold-based site. The following assumes that your CPT is called “testimonials” and the taxonomy is called “testcat”. They can be something else; you’d just have to modify the code below accordingly. This also assumes that the CPT has a variety of meta fields to contain the information about the testimonial. Such as company, URL and link text. If you don’t know how to do any of the items above, let me know.

    Before you get started, create 2-3 testimonials posts with your new CPT plugin and assign them to a category. Better yet, create 2-3 in two different categories so you can be sure that the correct ones are being displayed when you view the testimonials on the front end of the site later on.

    All of the builder elements are stored in a folder inside Enfold. Look in the themes folder and find enfold > config-templatebuilder > avia-shortcodes. DO NOT modify any of these files since that will cause problems with upgrading Enfold later. Instead, uses the items here as a place to start when you want to override a shortcode/builder element.

    Inside your plugin folder, create a subfolder called “avia-shortcodes”. It could really be called anything but I like to name it the same as what the theme uses. This is where you’re custom builder element(s) will live. You can put as many builder elements there as you wish and they will all get loaded into the builder at the same time. So, if you want to make one builder element that shows all testimonials from a specific category and another that loads one random testimonial you can do that by putting the correct code in this directory. For this example, we’ll just make the one builder element.

    Copy testimonials.php from the enfold directory into the shortcode directory you just created in your plugin.

    In your plugin code, add the following. This will tell enfold to load any shortcodes from your avia-shortcodes directory within the plugin folder. Notice that the function name contains the word “testimonials”. As you get more proficient at this you might be loading shortcodes for multiple plugins from multiple locations.

    // register builder shortcodes
    add_filter('avia_load_shortcodes', 'pwm_include_shortcode_template_testimonials', 15, 1);
    function pwm_include_shortcode_template_testimonials( $paths ){
    	array_unshift($paths, dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/avia-shortcodes/');
    	return $paths;
    }

    If you upload your plugin and activate it now, enfold will start using your new testimonials.php immediately. Since the testimonials.php file is wrapped in a “class_exists( ‘avia_sc_testimonial’ )” condition, enfold will load your testimonials.php file and when it goes to load it’s own there will already be an existing class with the same name so it will not load the enfold testimonials.php.

    At this point, you’ve effectively hijacked the testimonials builder block and you can do whatever you want with it. Everything below will be done in your NEW testimonials.php file and I won’t refer to the old one again. The issue is that it’s not obvious in the backend that the builder is using your NEW block. So, find the following line of code in your NEW testimonials.php file:

    $this->config['name'] = __('Testimonials', 'avia_framework' );

    and change it to something like:

    $this->config['name'] = __('CPT Testimonials', 'avia_framework' );

    If you load the builder in the backend of WordPress, you should see the new name for the builder block in the toolbar. The new testimonials.php still works exactly like the one built into enfold, though, and doesn’t pull from your CPT yet. There are two things to deal with: (1) allow the user to choose a category of testimonials to display while they’re building the page in the builder and (2) display those testimonials on the front end when the page is displayed. So, let’s hand the first issue:

    Altering the builder user interface

    Find the line in your testimonials.php file that says:

    function popup_elements()

    This function handles all of the elements in the builder popup windows for this element. Each of the shortcode files has a function like this and is where you would go to modify the info the user has to enter for a given builder element. At the top of this function, we need to get the list of testimonial categories that the user will choose from to display. Add the following right after the function declaration and indent it accordingly

    // get a list of available terms in the taxonomy_exists
    $terms = get_terms("testcat");
    $testimonial_categories[ 'Select One' ] = null;
    if ( !empty( $terms ) && !is_wp_error( $terms ) ):
    	// compile an array for display below
    	foreach ( $terms as $term ) :
    		$testimonial_categories[$term->name] = $term->slug;
    	endforeach;
    endif;

    Now we have an array of the available categories and we can display them in a dropdown SELECT box to the user. But currently the builder has the code that let’s you build testimonials one-by-one in a second popup window and that has to be removed. If you look a little farther down in the popup_elements() you’ll see a bunch of nested arrays that represent all the items that will get displayed to the user. Find the one that starts:

    array(
    	"name" => __("Add/Edit Testimonial", 'avia_framework' ),

    This entire array including it’s “subelements” array has to be deleted. Stop deleting just before you see the next array:

    array(
    	"name" 	=> __("Testimonial Style", 'avia_framework' ),

    In place of what you just deleted, put the following code. This will create the dropdown menu of available testimonial categories:

    array(
    	"name" 	=> __("Testimonial Category", 'avia_framework' ),
    	"desc" => "The category of testimonials being displayed here",
    	"id" 	=> "testcat",
    	"type" 	=> "select",
    	"std" 	=> "",
    	"subtype" => $testimonial_categories
    ),

    Also, scroll down a little farther and delete the entire function that starts with:

    function editor_sub_element($params)

    You can delete the preceding comments too if you want to keep your code clean.

    Save your testimonials.php file and upload it to the server. Then go into a page and view the page builder (refresh if you were already looking at it). Insert the CPT Testimonials block and you should now see that you have the ability to select a testimonial category rather than entering them one-by-one. If you try to view the page on the front end, though, it will probably break or display a blank area.

    Leveraging your custom post type

    Now we have to tell testimonials.php to pull from your CPT when displaying on the front end. For simplicity, we’re just going to hijack the way the shortcodes already work. Immediately after the function you just deleted, you should find this one:

    function shortcode_handler($atts, $content = "", $shortcodename = "", $meta = "")

    We have to make the shortcode aware of the new “testcat” parameter so find the shortcode_atts array and add

    'testcat'=> "",

    as the first line right above ‘style’=>”grid”. Now, scroll down inside this function until you find the following line:

    if($style != "grid") avia_sc_testimonial::$columns = 100000;

    Immediately after that line, place the following block of code. Be careful not to replace anything.

    // wp_reset_postdata() doesn't want to work for some reason so let's work around it
    global $post;
    $temp = $post;

    // get a list testimonials for this category
    // The Query
    $args = array(
    	'post_type' => 'testimonials',
    	'orderby' => 'menu_order',
    	'order' => 'asc',
    	'tax_query' => array(
    		array(
    			'taxonomy' => 'testcat',
    			'field'    => 'slug',
    			'terms'    => $testcat,
    		),
    	),
    );
    $the_query = new WP_Query( $args );

    // The Loop
    if ( $the_query->have_posts() ) :
    	while ( $the_query->have_posts() ) :
    		$the_query->the_post();

    		// get the post meta data
    		$testimonial_content = get_the_content();
    		$custom = get_post_custom( $post_id );

    		$src = get_post_thumbnail_id( get_the_id());
    		$name = $custom[ 'pwm_testimonial_alt_name' ][ 0 ] ? $custom[ 'pwm_testimonial_alt_name' ][ 0 ] : get_the_title();
    		$subtitle = $custom[ 'pwm_testimonial_company' ][ 0 ];
    		$link = $custom[ 'pwm_testimonial_url' ][ 0 ];
    		$linktext = $custom[ 'pwm_testimonial_link_text' ][ 0 ];

    		// add a shortcode for the currernt testimonial
    		$content .= "[av_testimonial_single src=\"$src\" name=\"$name\" subtitle=\"$subtitle\" link=\"$link\" linktext=\"$linktext\"]" . $testimonial_content . "[/av_testimonial_single]";
    	endwhile;
    else:
    	// no posts found
    endif;
    /* Restore original Post Data */
    wp_reset_postdata();

    /* Restore original Post Data */
    $post = $temp;

    This code loops through the testimonials in the selected category and sets up the av_testimonial_single shortcode to display your CPT data instead of data entered via the builder. One thing to notice is that on the 31st thru 34th lines of this new block of code, it refers to the metadata fields that contain the company, URL, etc for the testimonial. You should replace these names with whatever you used when you set up your metadata in the plugin.

    Hopefully, if you save your work and upload it, the new builder block will now display your testimonials from your Custom Post Type. There’s a small chance I may have left out some important detail and if it doesn’t work, you should feel free to ask me to look over your work.

    I hope this helps. Let me know how things turn out either way, okay? Good luck!
