I had the same problem, I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why this wasn’t working.
Tried your fix and viola, content displayed. ThanksSeems the maps widget has a bug.
The version of PHP I was running was 5.2.6
Added AddType x-httpd-php56 .php to .htaccess and it now works
