Okay guys, after spending a lot of time on this I have found something that worked for me. It has to do with admin. I created a new user and gave it admin rights.
I logged out of the site and logged in with the new user name. This immediately gave me access to the avia layout builder without spinner of death. I then copied the problem page to a new draft (as I was still unable to view the page after publishing even though I could use the layout builder). I deleted the original page and renamed the draft to homepage. Success!
Hope this may help others who get the dreaded spinning intro thing.I have had to delete my installation and try again from fresh as they seem to have given up support on this. Most disappointed. It was working fine and then the layout builder just started spinning. Bizzare. It has set me back at least a week.
