My programmer was able to fix the issue. I don’t know what the issue was.

We have enabled SiteGround Optimiser instead of Autoptimize , cleared cache with its help, updated the parent theme and switched between themes (to refresh things more). Looks ok now.

We hadn’t made any changes for months to the site before the issue.
