That’s not possible right out of the box, you’d need to look for a plugin like:

If your slider is very simple as you said it would be less resource intensive to use one of the native Enfold sliders then.

Can you post a screenshot of your view in IE8? as far as i know position properties do work on IE8.

We can’t help with installation of WordPress itself, 3rd party plugins that were not part of the theme package or heavy theme customization.
